I think Nintendo had no idea what to do with E3, heck I don't even think E3 knew what to do with E3. Now that it appears to be back to normal I think Nintendo will have a better show.

I will say all of E3 08 sucked big time. But Nintendo's show was just so...weird.

Everyone criticized E3 2007, but it was a better presented show. They showed off new footage of Mario Kart Wii along with new info, the Zapper with compatible game and the whole Wii Fit presentation was intriguing.

In comparison, E3 2008 was a mess. It was the fake pep that got to me the worst.

I disagree the worst Nintendo E3 was 2003 where all Nintendo showed was Pac Man Vs., GCN - GBA connectivity and Mario Kart Double Dash LAN party.

That's what I think, too. I heard that the Pac-Man presentation was laughable to say the least.

But let's stop it here before the thread goes to hell.

Word on what EAD Tokyo is doing? I would love that, but I highly doubt anything will be announced there.

In retrospect I don't see how Nintendo could possibility have improved last year's E3 presentation.  The problem really was more the Wii lineup for the remainder of the year.  It wasn't like Nintendo could just pull a game out of their ass.  I suppose they could have shown us some very early stuff but they showed us what was going to come out between then and this year's E3.  They didn't really drop the ball with E3 but rather dropped the ball with scheduling their lineup.  They could have the exact same format for this year's E3 and reveal the exact same amount of info and target the presentation at the same audience but have a really great lineup to show and the same fans that crapped on last year's show will love it.

I forget which RFN it was, but Jonny and crew thought that maybe Nintendo is worrying more about Japan, which had a much more diverse lineup for Winter with the other markets as more secondary.

I think that he'll talk about the challenges of designing games with WiiMotion Plus in mind, and talk a lot about WiiSports Resort to go along with that.  I also expect them to talk about the features of the DSi, and explain how the new features can be used to developers' advantage in games.  I think we'll see release dates for both WiiSports Resort and the DSi.

As has been said plenty of times, Nintendo tried to preempt any advances from MS and Sony into the "casual" territory with the early Wii Motion Plus reveal and such. That's why there were so many core games at the October conference, those had to take the backseat to defending the territory at E3. Obviously the whole defense ended up pointless because MS and Sony preferred to pretend the Wii doesn't exist. It was a critical time, had either of the other two made a serious advance with Nintendo unprepared that could have cost them the market. But yeah, that's off-topic. The GDC is about development, not game releases.

I really hope Iwata will give the devs a talk on how to make successful games on the Wii because it seems there's tons of people who need to learn that.

Iwata will stand in front of that ever-nervous non-casual gaming press audience and comment on how Nintendo pwned the industry last year and 3 holiday seasons in a row.

Iwata will present bar graphs and pie charts of JUSTICE.

Will Reggie be there to protect Iwata from the Ninja assassins that Sony has almost certainly hired to kill him?

lol, it's the other way around.  Sony and MS have to hire security to protect their HD developers from REGGIE.

Maybe Iwata will just show the NPD sales numbers next to a few select analyst quotes, point at the audience and laugh until the keynote is over.

Pro Daisy approves of this.  Why this isn't already available for WiiWare, I have no idea.

I am honestly disappointed that no new Wii games were mentioned. I was right that there would be focus on WiiWare and DSi, but no MP talk makes me believe that it was indeed delayed. This was the perfect time to talk about it.

The storage solution is great, though!

Overall, it was an impressive array of announcements, particularly the storage solution and Virtual Console Arcade, as they are immediately available.  The new Zelda game is pretty exciting too, and it looks to be a direct follow-up to Phantom Hourglass.  (Not surprising given PH's massive success in Japan.)  I'm a bit surprised that Iwata didn't mention Punch-Out or Excitebots.  I wasn't really expecting any new Wii game announcements.

I'm more than a little surprised that Square's going to start putting their old FF games on the Virtual Console, as we never thought that would happen.  But otherwise...same ol' story from Square when it comes to Final Fantasy: yet more Crystal Chronicles crap I don't give a damn about.

A new Zelda on the DS?  Umm...whatever?  I wasn't too fond of the last one they put out, and I'm much more interested in the inevitable new Wii Zelda.

Arcade titles on Virtual Console: not terribly surprising considering we have Neo Geo games on it already.

The big announcement today by far was probably the SD Channel, which was a long time coming and much appreciated.
