What do you think? Too optimistic?
Yep.
This isn't really an E3 kind of show. Nintendo might reveal something but they might not. If you want to know why people complained last year it was because of unrealistic expectations. I would like some new announcements and such and I think Nintendo could avoid media backlash better if they weren't so damn secretive. But at the Game Developer's Conference the only thing that really matters is a presentation that game developers get something out of.
Any time Nintendo is expected to make some public statement the hype builds up but they don't reveal tons of new info at every speech. I think it's best that everyone keeps their expectations down to avoid disappointment. We can talk about it and how cool it would be to find out this or that but we shouldn't expect anything unless it's a typical situation where new games are announced like E3.
I actually agree completely with this.
This is partially Nintendo's fault. I don't know how Nintendo announcements were handled back in the day, but E3 started right around the debut of the N64. From what I read the show was HUGE and wowed everyone, especially since it was one of the first times Nintendo showed off N64 games. It seems that since then Nintendo needed to throw a big show in order to make people happy, especially since half of them were being wooed by Sony.
And even today they still see ways to put on a show, even when their software is lackluster (they made a big deal out of Wii Music, stage production wise). So because of this fans expect Nintendo to do this EVERY time they do a keynote or conference. And when Nintendo doesn't do it they get crap from it.
I think if fans were conscious of this there would be less brain tumors. Nintendo will do announcements as they see fit, whether we like it or not. Once you accept this their announcements will be easier to swallow (though, their E3 show was horrible, and even they acknowledge that).
