I play with Remote & Nunchuk, but when I go to set up a Brawl the first player is always set to be a GameCube controller, as far as I can tell because I always keep my WaveBird receiver in the Wii, but it's not turned on. I have to turn it on and use it's analog stick to select a character for the computer and have myself as player 2. This is very annoying.

I think it just checks to see if there is something in the port.  I have a receiver in 1 and 2, and I come up as three if I use the Wiimote.

Why does it have to do that?! It is increasingly annoying to have to reach over and grab the Wavebird, turn it on, switch Player 1 to who I want it to be, turn it off, and go back to the remote before every Brawl. You should be able to switch controls via that icon next to the name like switching names or costumes. How stupid could they be to make the default controller one from another system with no way to change it?

Couldn't you just put the receiver for the Wavebird in the second controller slot and then it won't come up as the default for Player 1? (Maybe I am misunderstanding the frustration) I have two identical Wavebirds, both plugged into my Wii, and quite often I pick up player 2 and navigate the menus, and play the game and it doesn't seem to care that it is in the second spot.

Actually if you want to just set Player 1 to a cpu you can take your little hand and click it till its CPU and then move its piece.  At least thats what I do.

You can switch it to CPU, but to switch the character you have to use the analog stick on the Wavebird. That's the frustrating part. It wouldn't help to put the receiver in port 2 because the same thing would happen, and I also wouldn't want to do that because then the Wavebird wouldn't be in the right port for the VC and GC games I use it with. For now I guess I'll just play against random opponents, the default, to avoid it. Other than that I love the Remote & Nunchuk controls, almost too much because when I took a break from Brawl and played a little Kirby 64 I kept trying to jump with the L button.

I'm not happy with the fact that you an sit there watching the "joining game" screen for hours without actually getting into the game or it will disconnect you from Nintendo wifi, even with a wired connection.

Reggie isn't unlockable.

It's because him and his Sea Monster final Smash would be unstoppable.

To do him justice even his entrance has a chance of Smashing all competitors off the board.

While we are on characters that this match up will never come to Fruitation

The old trick from Melee doesn't work, you can't put two player-controlled characters in a Brawl and leave them there doing nothing for a long time to build up your play time, it maxes out at 99:59.

Well I am sure they are a media format hidden underneath of that.   Have you tried changing the file type to anything else yet?   usually they don't want to use other types of compression engines or they would have to make the engine themselves.

In the controller customization options, I wish there was a way to set character movement on the Classic Controller to the D-Pad.

The left Control Stick isn't in a good position for me, and I'd much prefer to use the D-Pad to move my character.  Unfortunately, movement isn't one of the options for control mapping on the D-Pad, and the Control Stick doesn't have any options whatsoever - it's used for movement, no matter what.

So I'm stuck using my purple, wired GC controller, because all this talk about customization was total bullcrap.

That Nintendo hasn't released a wireless Pearl-White GameCube controller.  Not a WaveBird, though, but one the size of an original GC controller that connects directly via blue-tooth and doesn't require a dumb wireless dongle.

I'd settle for a WaveBird though.

The ONLY reason people prefer the GameCube controller over say, the remote nunchuk or classic controller setup is because they are used to the GameCube layout.  I'm guilty of this.

Nintendo doesn't really have any incentive to make any more remotes and confuse people further.

Well I'd also like it for playing old GameCube games.  I picked up a wireless third party GameCube controller the other day to play Brawl, but it would be nice to have a high quality first party controller that's not impossible to find in stores and too expensive.

Or they could release pearl-white GC controllers with wires long enough to reach to a couch.

I reiterate, it sucks seeing that one of your friends is on, then making a game and sitting there, hoping that they just HAPPEN to notice you've made a game. What the hell would be so hard about including an invite button?

Well, I never use the classic controller because it has no rumble (another reason I never use the Wavebird), and I used the remote nunchuck controller a bit but it was too hard to remember how to control everything when (yes) I was quite used to the Gamecube controller. I don't see no harm in that.
