SSBB Nitpick thread
« on: March 10, 2008, 09:40:50 AM »
I figure I make a thread for these things.  As I play,Pro666, I'll find more things I think they should have done a little differently.  This is sort of a place holder I only have a few right now.

  • Unlocking more settings for matches that should have come standard
  • My music putting all new music to the almost lowest setting instead of the middle when you recieve it
  • Not be able to outright select the music at stage select time or access My Music (There may be a way and its still locked)
  • No Online Co-op Events (or I haven't found it yet)
  • Never showing the "I am saving" icon like on Melee (We lost some data at the event because of a Green Screen of death so I'm a little confused where it saves)
  • Cellphone style name entry on everything

Remember these are nitpicks we are all saying that the game is excellent but sort of confused by these omissions or anomalies.

Here is my list:

1) Slower than Melee, making it feel like a step back (IMO).
2) Randomly tripping when I run in the game.
3) The SSE camera with 2 players, only focuses on P1 and it makes it a real bitch for P2.
4) Weird design choices for some returning characters (ie Ganondorf)
5) Unbalanced Final Smash moves, some will instantly kill, others do very little to no damage.
6) Online mode is not very responsive (At least as of now); massive lag problems with random and friend matches. (The button lag is infuriating)

You can unlock more multiplayer settings.  Unlock all characters, first, then unlock all stages.  One of those two does it.

I really didn't find the game that much slower than melee, really.  You just need to find more things to do with your time.  Or all you characters suck.

1. Level switch? Please tell me I can unlock this...

2. WTF!!?! NO LATENCY METERS WHEN ENTERING ONLINE MATCHES!?! THEY HAD THAT **** IN STRIKERS, FFS!!! *ahem*

3. I've only played a few matched with Dirk so far and despite the fact that he's at most an hour drive from me, I still had some noticeable lag. Need to try more online play for testing...

4. No chat of any kind. I've already decided that my taunts will be "Good game", "Last game. Need to go", and "Lagging...".

1.  Yes, but you can't switch off the three stage builder stage, and on mine, you can't delete them, though the stages I've built haven't popped up on random yet.

4.  Character customized taunts are much, much better.

3.  Also, apparently, the rush has borked down all the online servers, including the with friends one, which is why nothing works.  Another tip to slow down your issues is to turn off all other connections to the internet.  When I figured this out, I was able to play someone in California with no visible lag, but there was still a button lag.  It still was fun, though.

I wish I had the luxury of #3, but I live in a house with three other people, 2 of whom regularly use the internet.

And yeah, Sonic's final smash is absolutely insane. Is there some way of avoiding it which I'm unaware of? Can I hit Sonic while he's doing it?

My only nitpick is that I live 4000km away from anyone  I know who has the game, I guess I'll have to limit myself to amusing photo sharing. :P

What really, really dissapoints me is the absolute lack of remote functionality. They could've at least make the cursor work in the menus with the pointer, or a couple of minigames, seriously, just anything would have been nice. Any wii owner is guaranteed to have at least one remote, and the number of wii owners with GC controls is pretty small, this was a big FAIL on their part.

Its actually simpler then that (we unlocked them at the event). w00t for a score counter... Unfortunately we unlocked it on UncleBob's WiiPro666

  • Not being able to copy your save to SD
  • Pit not having a good finisher move
  • Coin launcher doesn't show coin waiting for launch
  • How vastly superior the WaveBird is then any other control style Though thats also a comment on the classic controllers design as well...

Wow, this may be the first time I've seen someone actually *advocate* a shoehorned-in motion control minigame with no relevance to the larger game itself.

While he doesn't have a great one on the ground, he can fight away from the stage, so he's better at killing than you're thinking.  You just have to let yourself nearly die to do it.

As someone who uses the Remote/Nunchuk control scheme, it's annoying that you can't use the pointer for the menus, even though the big icons seem like they were designed for that kind of use. Also, tilt control for aiming the coin launcher would have been cool.

well, it is the nitpick thread ;)

The menu pointer would have been enough honestly, it's so annoying knowing you have the functionality there and not being able to use it. I'm sure it isn't terribly difficult to allow both GC/nunchuck or pointer to manipulate the cursor and let the player choose which configurations to use.

I suppose the lack of a saving icon that someone mentioned is my only nitpick.  Aside from having to pay money for the game.  Having it for free or, even better, being PAID to play it would have been welcome. ;)

I haven't played online yet.  No point.  I'm the only one of my friends that has a Wii.  So who the hell else would I play against?

I'll have to look into that, but I sorely, SORELY miss being able to reject incoming connections if they have terrible latency.

So who the hell else would I play against?

Other than all the other people on NWR, yes, who indeed.

I'm sure I'm going to get my ass stomped plenty of times in online matches, but I'm never going to get any better at the game unless I attempt to take on players better than me.
