Smash Bros. Brawl Delay Confirmed
« on: January 14, 2008, 07:12:06 PM »
Game's official blog says American gamers can now expect it on March 9th.  Japan is pushed back for a week to Jan. 31st.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=15111

After we reported last week that Wal-Mart's corporate database was essentially confirming a delay for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the game's blog site has now made the delay official.  Brawl's new American release date is March 9, a full month later than its previous date.  Director Masahiro Sakurai's explanation is that the game simply needs more time to be completed:

Due to delays in the completion of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, we’ve had to change the release date of the game to Sunday, March 9th.

I deeply apologize to the people who have looked forward to playing the game for so long and ask that you hold on just a little longer. Thank you for your patience.

A glance at the Japanese version of the blog confirms that region has also been handed a delay, though much less of one, as the date in that region has been delayed just one week to January 31st.

In somewhat happier news, the blog also posted a regular update today, this time revealing a Pikmin-themed level for the Pikmin/Olimar character announced last week.  The new level includes giant enemies, unpredictable showers of heavy rain, and numbered pellets that fall from the sky.  These pellets can be thrown into the Pikmins' onion nest to generate battle items.  The level's graphics clearly maintain the photo-realistic style of both Pikmin games.

THE LAMB IS WATCHING!

There are about 100 words I could use to describe how I feel.  Too bad all of them will be hit by the forum's filter.

N64: If it's not made by Nintendo or a 2nd party it's almost always shovelware.  All 11 non-Nintedo games.
If it is made by Nintendo never trust the third published release date.

I'm going to laugh my butt off if the fanboys that are angsty right now snatch up a copy the minute is released.

It happened A LOT during the N64 days. Everyone kept saying that Nintendo was being a fool for delaying games. Then the game is released, a million copies sold in a month.

Nintendo doesn't give a sh*t about angry fanboys since they are likely to bite their tongues, buy the game and enjoy it.

Really, Crimm, relax. Don't take it personally.

Its just a game. I'm sure there's far more important things to worry about...

Yeah by delaying a game for no reason is SOOOO like the N64 days. At least during the N64 period those delays were actually to polish and finish the game, this delay is a stupid marketing tactic that makes me think of Sony and not Nintendo.

If your parents told you you weren't having dinner until next week would you feel loved? Then next week at dinner time they told you it wouldn't be ready for another year, THEN would you feel loved? Then when it FINALLY came time to eat dinner, they said dinner won't be served for another month...??? I would say your parents just like to torture you

I was joking when I made the thread about fanboys being emo over this, but I didn't know people would take it THIS personally.

You know what? We are constantly saying "the delay was because of this" or "the delay happened because of THAT", but do we REALLY know why Brawl got delayed?

In all honesty, the delay is annoying and I could understand why it would upset some, but really, you guys taking this WAY too personally.

We don't know for sure WHY the game got delayed. For all we know, Brawl could be facing a very hard development cycle due to the high demands, or the ambitious online portions are harder than expected.

In the end, its just a game. Games get delayed all the time for reasons unknown. To take them personally is to be foolish.

There are more important things in life, stuff that perhaps deserve our attention more than the release of an anticipated game.

So to end the story, is the second delay annoying? Yes. Is it worth getting very angry and personal about it? No.

Its just a game. Deal with it.

This doesn't change the important question: How screwed up are things when they have to drop delay after delay.  They're not even HUGE jumps from previous delays.  Shouldn't they just save themselves the trouble and go for a longer delay?

All I see is "One week delay for Japan" meaning the game is DONE by then, but a "ONE MONTH" delay for NA, something is not right there especially since both versions have been in development simultaneously. So my guess is one of two things:

1. It is a marketing related delay (most likely)
2. It is a removal delay, where they decided to cut certain things out of the game

Either way it is terrible. Though I will say I don't hold any of this against Sakurai, in fact I would be willing to bet that NOA is behind it.

Both versions have been in development simultaneously? Where did you pull that crap from? If that's the case why haven't they even started making the PAL version? Games almost always come out in Japan first.

Geez you people. Sakurai said the game needs a delay. And if he says so, then it is so. What is it that Miyamoto says? A good game can be delayed once, (or three time or whatever), but a bad game is bad forever?

You say that as if the US always got the games first and Japan second. Now you understand how some Japanese Zelda fans felt when they saw that the US was getting Twilight Princess as a launch title while they had to wait a month to get it. Both games were being developed at the same time, yet the US got it first.

Once again, we can't say for sure WHY the delay happened. So it isn't really fair to claim the delay happened because of marketing reasons since we don't know why.

I swear I've heard that before. It makes sense though since originally the release dates were so close together, like Mario Galaxy. No this is an NOA deal, it smells of a marketing related delay rather than a development one.

But the game will be done by the end of January (Heck wasn't it confirmed it went gold weeks ago?), but for some reason instead of a week delay on the NA side there is a 1 month delay. It doesn't add up.

And why do you take it so personally? Did NOA kill your family because the game was delay? Is Nintendo your bitter enemy or something?

Delays suck, no matter the reason, but it ain't nothing to be severely upset about.

F***, F***, F***. I want the damn game already. The only reason i'm not more pissed off is that this makes sure I have enough money for the game. But 2 official delays (December 2, 2006 - February 2007 and not this) and 1 unofficial delay (Iwata saying he hoped it would be ready for the Wii launch, but never said it actually would be) is very frustrating. This better be even better than I hoped.

I'm sure if you wanted the Japanese version you could get it at the end of January, but (as far as I know) it's only the Japanese version that has gone gold. The two seperate versions of the game are being handled by two seperate divisions of Nintendo, I'm sure they don't work at the exact same pace.

Alright yes, booooo- but I also feel that most can agree that Nintendo's got a slew of games that are coming out that we wouldn't get to play if Smash came out on time. I'll be playing No More Heroes, Ninja Gaiden and Dragon Quest Swords in the meantime.

booo!!! BOOOOO!!! nintendo sucks, reggie sucks!! F those corporate pigs for delaying the game! i know there's some sort of conspiracy behind it, i know it.. something just doesnt add up.. but i'll find it out! and by the time i do the game will be released... and i'll still by it despite these angry feelings i have now.. i'll forget about my grudge against NOA, in fact i wont even remember complaining about the delay because i'll be enthralled in such wonderful gameplay and having fun taking on my friends in matches at home AND online. but alteast i'll find out the conspiracy behind delaying what will no-doubt become 2008's game of the year and probably be regardes as the best wii game EVAR!.

seriously, chillax! the news coulda been much worse. imagine the front page of the Dojo reading "We apologize but our team has switched focus to a more casual gameplay and we will be delaying Brawl to bring you and your family something you can enjoy together!"

i could see you all getting worked up for something like that! but a measely delay? please every nintendo fan should be used to it, even if you jumped on the bandwagon during the GC era. Someone else made a good point before, there will be other game to play like No More Heroes. Suppose Nintendo delayed Brawls release to give No More Heroes a shot at actually selling? Would you blame them? I wouldnt.

i was begining to worry NMH would under perform due to co-releasing in Feb with Brawl, i feared it would of became a sleeper hit that would show other developers that good original (also "traditional") games really cant sell on the Wii. If nintendo gives them a month lead, so be it, its not going to take any sales AWAY from brawl. It would be a different story the other way around though..
