Sakurai's List
« on: September 10, 2007, 02:50:44 PM »
Just because I thought it'd be interesting, I pulled up the list of characters that Sakurai mentioned on his blog before the Brawl site came into the form we know it in today, as well as the top picks from the character poll that he had on the initial Smash site...I'll be updating this list by bolding all of the characters that end up making it in the game! =D

(I love how Famicom Detective, Advance Wars, Drill Dozer, and Golden Sun appear on Sakurai's List, as I'd take them as playable characters or Assist Trophies! =D)

When was this list posted? I certainly remember the survey, but I don't recall Sakurai's list. But I love how Jill, Little Mac and Ouendan were included (although I prefer EBA to be represented since they are more universal than the Ouendan).

Are the numbers next to the Japanese poll characters how many votes they got? As the total is 59 if so... I'm sure there are a lot of 1s there, but I expected someone to get more than 5 votes to their name too...

I just noticed Dr. Kawashima in the list! LOL! Dr. Lobe has a higher chance of being in the game, but it would be funny if they included him somehow.

Man, I hope at least half of Sakurai's list makes it to the final game as he definitely has been paying attention to what the fans want.

So... Dedede and Ridley placed fairly high on that poll... I really hope they're not just bosses.

Well King Dedede's a given considering how popular the Kirby series is in Japan, but I'm surprised Ridley scored that high.  Well if Ridley's popular in Japan that definatly increases his chances of appearing in Brawl since he's already very popular here in America as well.

Sakurai said character would be decided by worldwide popularity which is why Japanese fans shouldn't expect any Japan only (he said they would think about it though, so all you Lucas fans still have hope) characters, so if Ridleys popular worldwide, that makes him a very likely character now.

Well there wasn't just Japanese voting in that poll.

I voted several times suggesting Mega Man, Bomber Man, Olimar/Pikmin  so really although it was a Japanese Poll, I bet the hardcore around the world voted for their favorite characters.

Updated the opening post because I forgot to include the 3rd party characters that were mentioned in Sakurai's blog...

Interesting notes: First, that Golden Sun really is considered a Nintendo property...With Isaac being mentioned in his list and being a popular character choice, I'm hoping this will give him a character spot...(And music!)

Also, Geno looks like a really good candidate for Squenix's character...

It would be nice to see Mother 2 and 3 characters in Brawl.  They do have a common enemy and I would like Earthbound represented by more then one character.  I can't decide who I would want more Geno or Mallow.

Make Giygas an Assist Trophy. He makes the screen dissolve into static, ruins your game DVD, and formats your Wii's internal memory.

I haven't played Mother 3 yet, so are Lucas' and Ness' move sets similar?  And by Ness' move set I obviously mean Paula's... =3

I really am glad Sora from Kingdom Hearts is in the poll....

Before people start flaming me about a game that only was on the Gba

there has been big hints that a spin off game in the series is coming to the Ds and the Wii and will be revealed at TGS this year.

Give me Sonic or give me DEATH!

In all seriousness I'm surprised he didn't make it to Sakurai's third party list. Maybe the choice was so obvious to him that he didn't need to put it on the list.

It would be cool of Sora makes it but Square needs someone better to represent the whole company.

Lucas has enough of his own original moves that he would play differently then Ness.  They do have one move in common, PSI Rocking and PSI Love are basically the same.  I hope in Brawl Ness gets some different moves so it reflects more on his actual skills.  He could chuck his sound stone at someone's temple

You know its funny, despite that list, Sakurai with out a doubt said that Sonic was the most asked about character. Well at least as 3rd parties are concerned. I am so dead positive that Sonic will be in this game that... if he's not, well... I will donate my completely costume made from scratch Master Sword to Nintendo World Report for a contest. I don't have it yet, it will be arriving from China in our next shipment, which should be long befor brawl comes out. So if Sonic is not in the game, mark my words, one of you guys will own that sword.
