Bill, of course I know the Franklin Badge played a big part in Earthbound.  I'm talking about the badge that was given out, though, that is identical to the one used as the item.

Is this the first real-world item that made it in the game?

Wouldn't be the first time, considering the inclusion of the Super Scope.

Yeah, but that's it. They're all ONE item!

The Pokemon appear in the Item category on the site, so that's just what we are going to work with...

Isn't Pokeball and Assist Trophies their own sub-category on the site as well?

Yep.  Click on the items category, and you'll see three tabs of sub-categories:  Normal Items, Assist Trophies, and Poké Balls.

I like your OP, Bill, but personally, now that Smash Bros. has an entire forum, I think there should be a seperate thread for each update...

To prevent that from happening, threads could be made well in advance. The morning before each update, someone could make a thread titled "TODAY'S UPDATE", and then, when the update arrives, edit the OP.

I was reading a discussion over on Gamefaqs about the Franklin Badge possibly canceling out Samus's FSA, and while I think this could be possible, it made me think of other attacks that absorb, or deflect, projectiles. Could Ness' PSI Magnet, Fox's Reflector, and , if he is in, Mr. G & W's Oil Panic be foils to the energy-projectile based FSAs like Mario's and armored Samus'?

anubis:  I don't think so.  I think all Final Smashes will follow different set of rules, because they are Super Attacks.

I really don't see a reflector or a Badge actually being able to protect someone from that much energy Samus or even Mario is producing in their Final Smash attacks.

It seems like you can hide the Franklin Badge on certain characters much better then others, it right on top of Kirby's head is almost a dead giveaway.  But I wonder if it will reflect Pikachu's lightning especially well... Ok that won't happen but it should. And if Ness is replaced by any Mother 3 character it would most likely be Lucas because weren't they going to include him in Melee?  Although I wouldn't mind Duster and his loveable limp.

News to me...The only character that I recall being dropped from Melee is Balloon Fighter...(Sakurai already said that all the contenders from the first game will be returning, so Ness won't be replaced... )

On the Japanese Melee site, in Ness' profile it talks about how Lucas, or who ever was the lead character in Mother 64, was supposed to be in the original SSB, but since the game got delayed into oblivion/canceled they put Ness in his place. I do not think it ever said that Lucas was supposed to be in SSBM though.

I personally think that Lucas will be a Costume for Ness, or vice versa if Lucas is the main for whatever reason.

Eh, no thanks. Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with the current method, now that the thread is no longer cluttered with other things related to the game.

Nice.

I like this idea. Rather than give THREE friggin' character spaces to pokemans, they gave ONE space which uses three different pokemans.

This makes it kinda weird for existing pokemans like Pikachu, though.

Wow, totally unexpected!

I don't know if Pokemon Trainer might become a commonly used character but he could be one of the most unique characters in the roster so far.

Can't wait how see how he plays in the final version.
