Peter Moore, however, says it's the result of the company being conservative, in light of inventory build up at retailers
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the inventory build up due to the fact that Microsoft over shipped systems during Q4 so they could meet their projected 10 million units shipped by the end of the year?

I fully expect them to stop production next, until they start selling again.  This seems like the same thing that Nintendo went through with the GCN.

I think they will do that exactly but for the purpose of making the rumored zephr 360s with an HDMI port and the rumored 120GB hard drive.

I also have to go with the thought that they're stopping production for the new model, X360's still sell fairly well for 2yrs into it's life, though they are seeing some backups.

FYI, it's 14 months into its life, not 2 years.

hmmm I meant entering it's 2nd year, you know like I'm doing well for the 23rd year of my life, my b-day is august, but this is the 23rd year.

I guess I could have explained that better.

A certain IGN editor's 360 broke down again. Maybe he's not aware of Microsoft's long-standing reputation??

The sad thing is that the rest of their hardware (keyboards, mice, joysticks and joypads) actually have a good reputation.

I really feel that 360 needs a price drop, but I guess Microsoft is trying to take advantage of 360's newfound profitability as long as possible.  Also, a price drop now might let Sony get the drop on MS at Christmas time, but it seems like MS is losing its chance to kick 'em while they're down.  Maybe pack-in of some major game instead of a price drop?

I think MS doesn't see a pricedrop as necessary yet. Maybe if the PS3 started impacting their sales. BTW, the PS3 will be available only in the 600€ version here.

See, I believe Microsoft is waiting until it can release the better Xbox 360 with a cheaper price.  And I expect that price to be around $50-75 less than the premium Xbox package.  This would really threaten Nintendo.

Which is why I stated in another thread I believe Nintendo will be selling the Wii for $150.00 by Christmas 2007.

Nintendo wants this system cheap...and is already making money off of its success.  Once components for the system get cheaper then a price drop will occur...and I believe it will be a significant price drop.  If the Xbox 360 is priced at around $325.00-$350.00 December 2007, a $199-$240.00 Wii doesn't look as good of a deal.  But a $150.00 Wii looks like a steal.

I believe this will happen.  As much as I believe that the Virtual Console games will get a price adjustment around the holiday season.

I also believe Ceric's concept that Nintendo is using the Wii as a tester system, and will release a new console in 3-4 years basically a fully HD compatible Wii.  I however believe Gamecube games will still be backwards compatible.

It already has in australia

ironic and sad

MS should pack in Rare's sales-disappointments. They're decent games and are less likely to be criticized if they come bundled. Plus, they're the type of games that potentially expand audience: Pack-in Kameo, pack-in Viva Pinata anyone?

Yes, besides some of their wireless offerings, I've found that every piece of hardware I've ever owned that was designed and made by Microsoft is solid and reliable.  I've never owned any of the Game Consoles but I have owned a variety of Mice and keyboards, the newest top-of-the-line ergonomic keyboard is great.  Also if I did have problems they respond quickly.

I hear the t Viva Pinata is really good.  Also I've seen a regular priced Premium XBox 360 packed in with this years Madden.  In recap,  If the new revision is the same price as the Premium now or cheaper and comes with Viva Pinata I probably try to pick that up.

After reading the horror stories of people being on their third or fifth X360s, I wonder if MS includes those repeat consoles in their numbers...

Did Sony....!?

Did someone say PS2? 100 Million shipped!!! How come the software #'s don't support that though?

Why do you think they report their #'s as shipped and not sold? Because they also had to ship out replacements, and since they were produced and shipped they might as well be counted.
