They ran the commercial at least a couple of times during Toonami on Saturday.  It is quite possibly the best Wii commercial currently in existence.  I don't even like golf and it got me excited.

It definitely looked like the Wii version was playing on the TV to me.

Anyone pick this game up yet? Pretty sure it came out today and was wondering if I should pick this up, or wait off for Medal of Honor. Wasn't really to happy with Pangya and WiiSports Golf, and I've always been decently entertained by the Tiger Wood games, besides the fact that all my friends rock at the game and make me feel like a chump playing it. Metacritic doesn't seem to have a review yet.

From the 1up review: "First off, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 topples its Wii competition, Super Swing Golf, merely by having a lower silliness index."

You hear that, you loli golf lovers? SILLY!

On that note I'm not sure which of the two to buy. I don't care at all about visuals.
The only two things that matter to me are controls and the courses. Has anyone played both?
Willing to compare them? Particularly the controls theyre by far the most important part.

anybody pick up TW2k7 yet?  I'm torn between renting it and buying it. I might want to pickup godfather instead but i'm not sure. I played godfather on PS2 and it was pretty solid.

I rented it over the weekend and I'd have to say "meh".  The graphics are pretty good but the controls have issues. Sometimes my player on screen will swing at the ball when I'm still doing my backstroke and it hits the ball like 20 yards. It's really annoying. Creating a character is annoying with the wiimote. Everything seems too sensitive.  Overall it's not bad but not great either.

Yeah, the swing back can cause problems when it's not sure which way you're going with it, but the game isn't so bad, overall.

I made a giant, 7 foot tall, ape-troll named "Bubba" who looks absolutely horrifying. It's hella funny to watch him hunch over the club as he takes a swing.

I own the game, and have played quite a bit of the game.  I was very frustrated after an hour or so because things were happening when I did not want them to, then I stepped back and looked at the controls.  I now have become quite good and it is pretty enjoyable.  Here are the keys:

Find a swing that works for you.  I worked at holding the remote perfectly level, changing the angle and all of that stuff during my swing until I found what got me a good swing with little slice (though I have a bit of a natural fade).

Hold still when you hit the ball.  When the computer hits it during your backswing, it is because (at least 90% of the time) your wrist flinches and you have a downward motion which it interprets as a followthrough.

The rounds take longer than in other versions.  I have found this extremely satisfying.  It makes me feel so much more immersed because I am paying attention to what I am doing.  I absolutely love it.  It's a completely different experience than in other versions.

Putting....yeah, practice and you'll get better at it.  Most putts are pretty easy but there are distances that the game will simply not allow you to hit which is frustrating.  This is my main gripe with the game.

Overall, after I realized the controls are not an actual golf swing, I came to really enjoy the game.  I am still a little disappointed the controls aren't 1-1, however for a first effort, I believe it came out very well done.  (If I needed a score...about a 8.0-8.3)

I found I improved IMMENSELY when I simply aimed the remote upwards a bit.

Look at your character on screen and how they're holding their club: if they're holding a driver, then they're probably holding it at a 45° angle of incident with the ground. This means that you TOO must hold the Wiimote this way. Without it, it just won't work.

So, the tip of the wiimote simulates the tip of a golf club?

No, the handle, but when you hold a driver, you don't point it straight down like you would with a putter.

That's what I was doing previously.

So you were playing Tiger Woods like you would play Wii Sports Golf? No matter how you do a swing, the results were always the same. TW being more technical, how you hold and swing the Wiimote affects the performance, am I right?

Yeah, how you hold the club as you swing means a great deal.

Supposedly, you can even twist the remote as you swing and get the ball to curve in mid-air but I've never been able to do it.

S_B, that's an awesome tip!  When I first started playing the game I was swinging towards the TV but I found that it was really hard to look at the TV. I changed my stance so I was perpendicular to the TV and found it much better.

Ok I popped TW back in the ole wii for another test drive. S_B, your technique was a total success. I held the wiimote at a 45 deg angle and only once in a whole 18 hole round did it swing early on me.  I enjoyed it much more this time around. The putting is still pretty wonky and I can't hit a straight shot to save my life but damn was it fun trying!

I'm betting that if I had the manual when I rented it, I would have been able to determine that sooner.

Ah well. Just glad it helped someone.

Well, my opinon of TW2k7 has gone a complete 180.  I didn't like it at all when I fist started playing it. After I figured out the controls, I think it's really good. Much better than Wiisports golf.  Putting is still not very good but at least I can drive the ball well. The only problem i'm having now is sometimes when i'm swinging, my thumb accidentally presses the (-) button and that totally screws up the shot.  It changes the camera to some kind of first person view and the ball goes like 50 yards.  That's really annoying.  I rented 2007 but I think i'll buy 2008. Hopefully they can make the putting alot better.
