Bump!

Sorry to bump this thread, but me and my nephew were able to try out the PS2 version of RRR.

Here are some impressions:
Controls: First of all, any controls that require you to move either the nun chuck or the Wiimote (and sometimes both) have been replaced by movement of the PS2 Joysticks. For example, in the "Bunnies don't close doors" game, with the left stick you move the hand while with the right stick you shut them. Other games, like the "Bunnies don't jump" and "Bunnies don't have good memories" ones are button presses.

I haven't played the Wii version, but I can tell that the Wii version has MUCH better aiming controls than the PS2 one. The aiming is very slow and boring, it makes the gameplay in the shooting stages move at a snail's pace, plus without the precision of the pointer it makes it harder to aim and shoot.

Some games, however, are easier to do with the PS2 controller than with the Wiimote, since I heard the Wii version uses some crazy combinations, like shaking the nun chuck to make juice while aiming with the Wiimote on the juice one. It is MUCH more doable here than in the Wii version.

But outside game controls RRR PS2 is identical to the Wii version. Three games per day, plus a dancing mini game and the boss stage, complete them all to earn the Rabbit's respect, get more outfits etc. etc. etc.

Graphics: The game looks identical to the Wii version, with the exception of slow down in many cases as well as low res textures on many an occasion.

Sound: It's all the same, screams and all...

Overall: The PS2 version is a good alternative to the Wii version if you either don't have a Wii but want to play the game. It shows you the basics of gameplay that is available on the Wii. The only thing that you will lose is, of course, the controls, which will either make or break the game for you. On one hand, some of the games are easier, on the other the Wii version is better.

But outside that, the game isn't drastically different that there's no clear winner or loser here. It all depends if what you want is the game itself or the controls the game offers.

Thanks for the info.  I completely forgot about this coming to PS2, and it's good to know it's the same game, and not a brand new Rayman platformer.

I forgot to mention that even the mini games are the same as in the Wii version, so you won't be missing anything if you go for the PS2 version.

Matt; RRR for the GBA and DS are going to be the true platformer games. So if you want the platformers, those are the way to go.

ShyGuy:  That is so true.  Too few developers attempt platformers, and when they do there is no time spent creating interesting challenges and wonderful worlds to explore.  It is usually thrown together stereotypically and is depressing to even play.

These days "platformer" practically means third person shooter.
