Everyone's got to remember that the original NiGHTS (and the Satrurn itself) was a *cult* classic, and a pretty big financial flop

Wii Love Golf was an ABSOLUTE DISASTER. It does say a LOT about the Wii userbase though. It still only consists of Nintards and non-gamers. It's very clear the REAL hardcore gamers who actually have half a brain are still stuck on the Sony side waiting for PS3 to be cheaper, then again if they really were smart they would HAVE A Wii. The game IS the new Mario Golf but BETTER, but Wii owners are too ignorant to know. On one side of the userbase you have the Nintendo fans who only buy Nintendo games, on the other side you have the new gamers who don't know what to buy and just buy what's advertised. That leaves NO room for third parties and it's no wonder they all want Wii to fail. If Mario was in Wii Love Golf it'd sell half a million. Come on Nintendo, release game training already.

NiGHTS did heaps better than I expected, at least it made the top thirty and almost sold 20,000.

I think Japan is overly saturated with arcade Golf sims. There's Wii Sports Golf, Super Swing Golf 1 and 2, the eventual Mario Golf Wii, the Hot Shots Golf series and now We Love Golf. The game doesn't even seem to try and differentiate itself from the other Golf series. Hell, even the concept of unlocking Capcom characters through secret costumes is very similar to Super Swing Golf's costume mode.

Did anyone see the latest charts? People ate up the new red PSP and its in second place while Wii is in third.

Thank GOD Wii Love Golf has underperformed. Maybe now Camelot will make an RPG.

Actually there is Christmas in Japan.  It's not a national holiday for them but it is celebrated by decorating, eating special meals and giving presents.  New Years Day is the bigger holiday over there though and the one where people actually get the day off to celebrate to.

and Top 15 Publishers & Top 50 Wii games

According to information in that thread, the Wii is ahead of the PS2 in Japan, with 11 million+ software sold compared to 8 million for the PS2's same 52 week period, and a 2.8 attach rate compared to the PS2's 2.3. Also, the Wii has had 2 million sellers so far in Japan in those 52 weeks (and Mario Party 8 will join that soon) While the PS2's highest seller through the period was Onimusha at 756k. (BTW, Onimusha, according to the Famitsu information provided, topped out at 927,000, NOT breaking a million)

Here's the chart I'm looking at.

But you also have to factor in that WiiPlay is counted as one of those million sellers, when in fact 98.95% of people were buying WiiPlay for the second controller and not the $10 bonus game. That also severely skews the attach rate ratio, but I'm not trying to argue on behalf of the PS2, just stating something that should be taken into account when doing a direct comparison.

Well, if you remove Wii Play that's 1.8 million in sales, so the Wii is still ahead and still has a million seller in Wii Sports.

Here's Famitsu's Top 10 for December 17 - 23 while you all wait for Media Create numbers to be posted.

1. FF4 DS : about 309k
2. Mario Party DS : about 308k (total about 1.07m)
3. Wii Fit : about 210k (total about 737k)
4. Super Mario Galaxy : about 109k (total about 680k)
5. Wii Sports : about 109k (total about 2.37m)
6. DQ4 : about 108k (total about 963k)
7. Wii Play : about 105k (total about 307k)
8. Mario & Sonic at Beijing Olympics : about 100k (total about 307k)
9. Dora Base : about 96k
10. Naruto: Shippuuden N-Ultimate Accelerator 2 : about 94k

Hardware

DSL : about 319k
Wii : about 264k
PSP : about 162k
PS3 : about 51k
PS2 : about 24k
360 : about 8.1k

Well that's Famitsu.  Media Create sales are usually similar so you all have an idea of how those charts will look.

And once again, Mario Galaxy has got legs, since every week it's just been growing and growing.  And remember, Sunshine sold around 800,000 copies in Japan and so at this rate, Galaxy will outsell Sunshine by the end of the year.  And with legs like it has now, it should be able to actually surpass the million mark by the end of January or early February.

Good god, 264k in a week, that would be nearly 1.16 million in a month. Back to outselling PS3 5:1 it seems, though PS3 had a good week, compared to it's "real" usual sales.

This is undoubtedly the result of Wii Fit. Wii sales slacked off because of the drought, and Galaxy had almost no impact in that, but now we are finally seeing the Wii being elevated to DS levels.... and, for some reason, the DS is rising to levels previously unheard of...

That said, the PSP is doing good and the PS3 is doing *okay*, but they are just dwarfed by the Nintendo juggernauts.

Uh..... correct me if I'm wrong, but Wii Play, in japan, sells by itself. Doesn't it? It's only the US that gets the bundle. So as far as these media create numbers are concerned, people are buying Wii Play for Wii Play, not a second controller.

25 of the top 30 are on Nintendo platforms. 41 of the top 50. It's great to see this kind of domination now after I've spent a year of quietly cynically doubting Nintendo's domination.

Oh, and check out Super Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros, and Animal Crossing: Wild World. 16, 21, 25... after all this time. Oh my god.

Holy crap, the DS has now outsold the PS2 lifetime.  And here we were expecting that to happen in 2-3 more weeks.  They did it before 2007 was done.  It's now bigger than everything.
