Battalion Wars II
« on: August 23, 2006, 01:57:01 AM »
I thought I might as well create a discussion thread about Battalion Wars II, one of my most eagerly awaited Wii games. So far this game looks to surpass the original with leaps and bounds. Not only do the graphics appear MUCH better (hopefully framerate follows suit) but the multiplayer modes have alot of potential. This was one of the few games that I thought could be amazing on Wii and I am happy to see Nintendo support another iteration even with the lackluster sales of the original.

I liked Battalion Wars but alas it was one of those games my Cube couldn't handle so I was going to play it again when I got my Wii.  I haven't seen the video for this one but I think it's to soon for this to come out.  Well at least their is multiplayer which will be great.

The water battles should make a great addition to the series as well (can't believe I forgot to mention those!).

Yeah.  I hope they keep the hard cut balance that they had inheritted from Advance Wars.  Though I am sort of sad this probably means we won't get a full Wii Advance Wars...  Battalion Wars can stand on its own and like there totally different games in the same universe.  I like the seperation that they have.  Though I would really like a RTS game for the Wii.

My mild distaste for the first game is more than outweighed by my fevering anticipation of announced online co-op play!

I haven't even played the first, but it's probably in my top 3 "to get" GameCube games...or it was until this was announced.  Now I might just wait for this one.  I'm looking forward.
That's my opinion, not yours.

The first game was too hard for me  It was partly because the controls were a little wonky, but still I just suck at shooters and strategy games so Batallion Wars was my worst nightmare...

I might get this when it hits the bargain bin though, because even though I probably won't like it it still looks fun

One thing I really respect about Nintendo is that they will not dump a franchise if the first outting does not do so hot. I may be mistaken but I think Battalion Wars sold like crap, and yet they are willing to put resources into another sequel. It seems far too often that a promising game is released but is hampered by flaws which cause sales to be low and the company does not bother to resurrect it.

The problem wasn't the flaws, the problem was the GameCube audience is HORRIBLE.

2005 was a DISASTER.  People walked right past killer7 and Battalion Wars, and even RE4 had a lower-than-expected sales ceiling.  Even throw StarFox in there.  Nintendo had trouble selling games to its own EFFING loyalists.

What were the bigger sellers?  Mario Baseball, Mario Party, and Smash Bros.?  Nintendo set up 2005 for PHAYLE.  [GENERALIZATION] Most of the sales came from late adopters who mostly bought the Player's Choice line-up.  SMASH BROS. FER CRYIN' OUT LOUD, DIE.  I didn't want to see it on the sales charts, accompanied by Mario Sunshine.

2005 had a strong budget line-up.  Budget line-ups are good, they help attract new customers, but how could Nintendo let it take the forefront of sales?  Why were the solid, decent, ORIGINAL titles ignored?

Nintendo is worst and best all in one package.  Same goes for its audience.

oh yeah, i blame the DS and all of you.

Well I can't disagree with much there (I personally loved Battalion Wars) but I wasn't too found of Killer 7. Glad to hear Mario Baseball sold so well because I can't wait to see a Wii sequel!

This game is actually quite a lot better looking than BW. It's a LOT crisper. Not a lot more polygons or textures (it's still early) but it is definitely better looking (quality of the shot advantage aside):

from IGN's preview: "While we didn't get a chance to check out the multiplayer mode today, we did see that two Wii consoles were connected via wireless LAN to allow for two player games without split screen. "

does this mean our Wiireless multiplayer is still an option!!?!? Nintendo has conquered American dormlife~!
