Why are people so fixated on having right analog sticks? Besides shooters (and touch>>>Rstick for aiming), I cant think of any games in the past decade that have really used in an "essential to the enjoyment" way...

As soon as Nintendo realized that we would all want a second uMote for our Wii U's and 2 seconds after Miyamoto said "just use a 3DS" did it dawn on them that the Umote has 2 analogs and a touch screen and therefore the 3DS was not a viable 2nd controller due to that glaring omission.

Now (assuming this is true... and it does sound plausible) if Nintendo had just listened to us before launch, they would have realized a 2nd analog stick was being requested (along with 2 same size <wide>screens w/ no bezel inbetween).

The Wii U controller also has two more shoulder buttons plus other functionality like an IR sensor (or camera, I forget which), so simply adding a second stick to the 3DS would not put it on par with the functionality of the Wii U controller. Besides, I don't think a game would use both the touch screen and two sticks because people have only so many thumbs. I also don't think Nintendo intended the 3DS to be used as a controller for very many multiplayer games, just ones that used the touchscreen; a developer could always use the Classic Controller if their game needs two sticks.

Nintendo is being reduced to tripping over itself after mishandling the 3DS launch. This is actually kind of sad to see. I don't think the 2nd analogue stick is that big of a deal, especially if Luigi's Mansion 2 plays fine without one, but it would've been nice to have. An attachment would just be uncomfortable and adding one to a revised model would be really unlike them.
I don't think Nintendo has too many options right now, but pumping out dev kits and riding out this **** storm seems to be the best bet.

Seems like BS.  I don't even know how second analog stick could even plug in.  Is there some kind of slot or would the bs rumor want you to use wireless?
A second analog isn't the problem, it is games not being there yet.  Nintendo should be smart enough to realize that

I forgot to add that if Nintendo releases a 3DS next year with a 2nd analog and some other functions that my 3DS doesn't have, I will be pretty mad, & 20 free (old) games will not squash that beef.

Some new branding would probably help though. I can't tell you how many times I've heard it called the Nintendo 3D DS.

The thing about adding another analog stick is it would screw all the people who already invested in a 3DS... arguably even worse than the $250 price and price drop. That said one way they could do it is have like a recall thing where they get current 3DS users to send their system to Nintendo and they will ship them a dual stick 3DS in return or a voucher so they can pick one up in stores free of charge.

This one is funny. Not only has Nintendo NOT even tried to convince the public it was harmless, they actually go out of there way with unnecessary warnings and so on that tell people that it IS harmful. This, even though some specialists have come out and said it is NOT harmful to children. Nintendo is damaging themselves by warning people their product is harmful even though it isn't.... that's the opposite of big tobacco. It doesn't make any sense.

Even more than screwing people over it would make compatability a nightmare.  Suddenly their entire first year advantage of userbase over vita gets thrown out the window for any game that supports dual analog. (Are there even that many outside of shooters that a Japan centric handheld probably doesn't care about?)

Also think about the feasability of developing an analog add-on.  Could it even connect to the system without destroying the battery with wireless?  These rumors are linked and if one is flat out crap the other probably is too.

That wouldn't happen. They would have to replace more than 5 million 3DS's.

If they actually did do a redesign like that, then I would just sell my 3DS and sit this round out. Either the system would already be dead anyway since you would have such a split customer base (those who can vs those who can't) or the 2nd stick would largely be ignored. But I doubt they would do such a thing with the analog sticks anyway.

The more people post good points, the more I think this is bogus. It seems more like someone just wants the second stick in response to the Vita, and the new model claim is probably because products usually get heavy price cuts before a new version comes out. So this rumour is based on some facts at least, but it still sounds fake.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be expensive, but it could be done because isn't that what Microsoft did with the 360 a few years back? Plus it wouldn't be a total loss because Nintendo could recycle the components from the single analog 3DSes and reuse them with the dual analog models. So if you take that into account it probably wouldn't be that much of a loss. Not to mention the fact Nintendo makes a profit off each unit sales and a huge profit from before the price cut, so they wouldn't loss as much money as Microsoft did when they recalled 360s.

Like I said, this is too crazy even for Nintendo. None of it makes any sense. If they were releasing a successor next year they never would have dropped the price of this one because it doesn't matter if it builds market share or not. With the second analog I don't see how they could do it without being ridiculously awkward, and even if they could they'd certainly charge more than $10 for it.

Nintendo can't be THAT stupid. Adding on a second analog stick as an accessory is impossible, considering there is no way for it to attach to the system or plug into the system on the right. Also, the add-on would be extremely ugly and would probably be awkward and unbalanced to hold. It just doesn't work.

The 3DS revision is a bit more believable, but I doubt they would do anything major to the hardware. It would only confuse the average consumer even more.
