I could have sworn Nintendo went around there previous case because there rumble system used one unbalanced motor instead of two.

Who knows though, I'm just pull sh!t out of my memory (/ass).

Isn't that the case where they had to send out $5 coupons to owners of the NES and then all it did was spur sales of NES games, and this was right before the release of SNES anyway. From what I've read, it seems like even if they couldn't win the case in the court they would turn it into a win in the stores.

BlackNMild is, once again, correct =)

A loss was a win for Nintendo in that case.

Nintendo patented unbalanced motor(s) in it controllers and Immersion later got a patent for balanced motor in controller. But Immersion could have another patent for use rumble in VG of something dumb like that.

Btw Nintendo has lost they own lawsuit against game genie for hacking their games and the countless lawsuit with their game causing seizers and not having enough warnings about it....

MS has since sold that piece of the company back to Immersion after the settlement with Sony was done.
Immersion never had a case against Nintendo, and its likely that they still don't. I'm sure Nintendo did all of their homework before revealing the tech going into the Wiimote and thats why they were waiting for all the proper copyrights, trademarks and registered patents to go through before revealing the Wiimote to begin with.

Besides I'd hate to see Yamauchi rise from the [strike]undead[/strike] retired sector to lead his army of lawyers to battle one last time.

Immersion's law suit did not apply to Nintendo.  Only Microsoft and Sony

The infridgement was two motor rumble design that placed the rumble on the sides directly under the palms and used a unbalaced weight on the motor

The GameCube and Wii controller do not use this design

The N64 used a unbalanced weight in the rumble pack but was situated in a different design and location on the controller.

If Nintendo were to enable rumble on VC games using Wiimote rumble or GameCube controller rumble, it would not infrindge on Immersions patent

-Free Radical has a Wii exclusive FPS on the way, could be TimeSplitter 4 (waiting for Leipzig...)

Maybe my contact was correct?  And I might have more info next week sometime.  Lets hope anyway.

"UK studio Free Radical Design has confirmed to CVG that development of TimeSplitters 4 is well underway and anything is possible regarding the platforms it'll launch on.

"Yes, TimeSplitters 4 is happening. At the moment it's in the very early concept stages, and as yet it's unsigned to any publisher," Free Radical Design's screenwriter Rob Yescombe told us.

Regarding a platform it looks like there are no specific exclusive plans although that could change when the game's gets picked up by a publisher. You've got to think that PS3 would be a prim(ate) target given the series' history and success on PS2. "Anything and everything is currently a possibility. We're not saying no to anything," added Yescombe."

So far, so good.  LINKY

Another rumor, coming to attention thanks to the NeoGAF forums

Sonic Rider: Zero Gravity coming to Wii and PS2

The only thing is that they link Gamestop.com as the source, but whatever they searched for to find that, its no longer there.
But the real question is, does anybody really care? Was the first game any good?

-Nintendo to go "3rd party" and produce games for the Apple iPhone (waiting for Leipzig...but not likely to happen)

Well, something just popped up that is most likely not related to that specific rumor, but instead could have Apple trying to compete with the DS I mean NGage.

Apple's iPhone will go thumb-to-thumb with the Nintendo DS
Quote

Apple is set to use its iPhone take on Nintendo in the video games sector, according to the latest from the industry's rumour mill.

Games have been available on the iPhone since its hugely hyped launch last month.

However, a report in the New York Post today suggests that Apple has its sights firmly set on becoming a significant player in the market for “casual games” exploited by Nintendo’s phenomenally successful Wii and DS devices.

The Post report includes a quote from Kasper Jade, of AppleInsider.com, one of a throng of industry blogs with a track record of revealing forthcoming Apple moves.

“I was told that a major game developer was seeded with iPhone [technology] quite some time ago,” he said.

The newspaper also reported remarks from Peter Rojas, of Engadget, another technology blog, saying that an announcement is expected from Apple soon — “by Macworld [the company's annual convention] in January at the latest”.

A move to make the iPhone into a fully fledged gaming device would put the gadget against a legion of handheld games machines, including the Nintendo DS console and the Sony PSP.

Phone groups have also been exploring gaming, with Nokia, the world’s largest handset maker, poised to launch an updated version of its N-Gage platform this summer.

I know this has nothing to do with the Wii, but it is related to a rumor that is in the Wii rumor thread therefore I thought I should post it here.

They're never going to get a significant market for games more complicated than the simple iPod games they have now.

1) It's notoriously hard to compete in the console business. Even harder in the portables business. Look at how many dead or soon to be dead handhelds there are.
2) Developers are looking for volume, not necessarily hardware quality. Unless the iPhone becomes the rip-roaring smash megahit that it currently is not, it'll be difficult to get developers to sign on.
3) If the PSP, with its lower cost, dedicated gaming hardware, and support from a company with experience in games, couldn't unseat the DS, why would Apple be able to do so?

I agree with Uerd.  Especially with the cost of the iPhone and the lack of progammability by any none Apple source officially.  I'm assuming they would want to do all this digitally where you download the game which makes less sense because the iPhone has the storage space of an Nano.  I can see them "attempting this" but in the lame way as them saying you can make an app for the phone because it will run in the browser from a site.

Add all of the reasons above to Apple having a niche following, and there's no way it would succeed.  And they know this.  Unless they release the Gpod, a gaming dedicated machine, there's absolutely no way it could work.

I'd rather see Apple have more games come to it's MAIN computer OS system than the iPhone.

Though I have a PPC so I doubt I would be able to play the games that come out anyway ::sniff::.

it probably wouldnt happen until around their next system launch when wii sales arent as high and they use this to boost the numbers up a tad as a collectors item.

i'd buy it in a heartbeat (even if i already bought a second, black, wii by then)

and i'd probably use it exclusively for VC games just cuz

Well... according to a NeoGAF member he was looking through the Gamestop release list today and Samba De Amigo was listed as a 2008 release for the Wii.

this image was created in celebration should this rumor actually come true.

p.s. These release list have been pretty accurate in the past, and since this rumor does make sense, that actually likens the chances that its not gonna happen
