Indeed. As Matt Groening and David X. Cohen even mention in the audio commentary that Jurassic Bark is cited by Futurama fans as one of the most emotional episodes of the series, and one of the few episodes of any series that made me get a tear in my eye during the end montage of Seymour spending the rest of his life in that spot waiting for Fry to come back (and I love how they reference this in the first Futurama movie).

It was never confirmed that Comedy Central would air new episodes in 2008. The only confirmation was that they would take the 4 movies and split those up into 4 episodes each (and those 16 "episodes" would make up the 5th season). This is the first actual confirmation of new episodes.

Out of the movies I thought they got off to a terrific start with Bender's Big Score, while not as good as the best Futurama episodes it was still right up there. It also dabbled in stuff that I wanted to see, like the Fry and Leela relationship also the ending was really promising (with the whole universe splitting open and stuff), but they really failed to follow it up with Beast With a Billion Backs. They never followed on with the whole Fry & Leela thing and the "Beast" was pretty lame as a whole.

Bender's Game was trash, I wouldn't have minded it as much if it was just an episode, but it was basically 4 which sucked. Into The Wild Green Yonder was good, not as good as Bender's Big Score, but it was definitely a more interesting storyline and the ending was good again. I want to see how they follow this up with the new series.

There's still the Arrested Development movie coming.  That could save the show.

Except that it's been confirmed that they haven't even started writing the script yet, so it's a long way off. I also doubt that they will revive the show (although I would love that).

As much as I love Arrested Development, I really wouldn't want it to go past a new movie. Especially if that pretentious twat Michael Cera is still in it.

I agree Dasmos. The movies started and ended great, but the stuff in between was pretty boring. I don't think the show lends itself to movie length material, so I'm looking forward to a return to an episodic format.

Sucks that it's going to be another whole year to see something, but man is it going to be great when it returns. I just hope that they still have the touch, and that they can continue to build on the great stories and characters.

I haven't watched very many episodes of those cartoons so those are just my first impressions of them. But it seems like Futurama can be funny without being offensive, having shock value, or making a statement, and that is generally my idea of a good comedy.

Your missing out on alot if you keep with your pompous attitude. These shows are meant to be funny, first and foremost. Just take them for what they are and not what you would like them to be, and you will enjoy them.

It's great to hear they are making a new season (or is it two seasons?). I've been watching futurama like an addiction. It's really a great show with lots of creative story-lines and hilarious characters (I still laugh everytime I think about Bender yelling DOOM!).

That said, my favorite episode has got to be the very last one where Fry creates an opera. That episode was perfection.

I don't like how they always put down Meg, and I hate how Seth MacFarlane tries to make marijuana use look acceptable.

I find this quote worthy. I think it's hilarious everytime they put down Meg. I distinctly remember a part of an episode where Peter's like "That's right, everyone. It's a Meg episode.......Here's the clicker. You could change it and no one would blame you." I almost spit out my drink watching that.

Also, do you drink beer? Cuz I hate how Seth MacFarlane makes alcohol use look acceptable. /end stupid statement

I, too, am offended by unfunniness on what's supposed to be funny.  I'm also really offended by bad song-and-dance performances when there is supposed to be talent.  I watch American Idol once a year, and it makes me really cranky now.  It's funny, in an offensive way.

I remember reading a story in Rolling Stone where the writer just had to say they were in pain and the doctor just gave him a prescription (without actually running any tests or exams). It does seem a little to easy to get a medical prescription for marijuana in California. I don't think medical use should be allowed either.

why wouldn't you want it to be used for medicine?

You realize that is was only made illegal so that hemp couldn't be used as an alternative to paper. Lobbyist for the Paper Industry back in 19XX made sure of that. Marijuana has plenty of uses other than just getting high(which is also beneficial for many).

You are not gonna convince me to support illegal drugs. While their is some minor legit use for hemp, there is no legit reason to smoke it (there are other medications available for people who claim to need it for pain).

manufactured drugs that replicate things already found naturally in marijuana?

Nobody is trying to get you to support anything. Just trying to make sure you know that marijuana is more than just getting high. It has many medical uses and hemp has many many alternative uses too. Clothing, rope, paper, etc etc. Its a plant that keeps on giving.

Marijuana was never made illegal because it did harm, it was made illegal to help the paper industry by stopping an alternate and cheaper source of paper from being produced. It was a corporate agenda. Very much different from supporting the use of crack or heroine.

The only possible way I could ever support legalizing it (which I would fight against if they ever tried to do it) is if they did the same thing they do with tobacco and put extremely high taxes on it. The negatives to this drug far outweight the minor positives (when it comes to consumption).

Be careful, this is borderline against the rules.  That said, I don't mind the debate, you just don't want to get too much into politics, or else you'll get a clear "steer clear."

If it were up to me, I'd say make some aspect of it more legal, just to stop the flow of money from reaching drug-related criminals, and such.  It's a substance that alters how brain chemistry works, and there's several of those already available legally, what's the harm of one more of the "lighter" ones?

Fair enough. But I'm curious. What do you  find funny?

Also, do you drink beer? Cuz I hate how Seth MacFarlane makes alcohol use look acceptable. /end stupid statement

Here's the difference: one is legal and one isn't. Please don't tell me you support illegal drug use?

Ok. Let's for a second look at both of these drugs, shall we?

Alcohol is legal and is clinically proven to be a very addictive substance. It can impair your ability to think, talk, walk, and operate a vehicle. While low consumption actually produces more anti-oxidants to scrub your arteries, heavy use can lead to heart disease, nausea, dementia, and cancer (of which pancreatic and liver cancer are the most common). Alcohol is a depressant and can lead to feelings of depression and/or anger. You can overdose on alcohol, or alcohol poisoning, causing your breathing and circulation to your brain to stop. Every year roughly 75,000 people die in the US from alcohol related illnesses, not to mention 30-40% of all traffic fatalities are caused by alcohol (~12,000 people died in 2007).

Marijuana is illegal and has been clinically proven to not be physically addicting. It can impair your ability to think, talk, walk, and operate a vehicle. Consumption of the drug increases appetite and decreases nausea. However, since marijuana effects people differently, people could experience anxiety, restlessness, and paranoia. While smoking marijuana can damage and tar the lungs, it can enter the system in unharmful ways. Marijuana can be served in food or a beverage and if the active ingredient (THC) is harvested, it can be inhaled with vapor. You cannot overdose on marijuana. Furthermore, there has never been a report where marijuana has killed a person. However, the illegal nature of marijuana makes the drug more dangerous due to the nature of the drug trade. But unlike alcohol, Marijuana does have a lot of medical and societal uses. It can relieve pain without causing addiction (unlike all opiates). It increases the appetite and decreases nausea in cancer and aids patients (the number one reason for "wasting away"). It can effectively lower intraocular pressure (main cause for Glaucoma) more than a variety of drugs on the market. It's seed has all the essential amino acids and EFA's. It's stalk and leaves can be made into fibers to create stronger concrete and rope. In 1916, the US Agricultural department stated that paper created with hemp pulp was more favorable than those from wood. Furthermore, one acre of marijuana can produce as much paper as four acres of forest. It also only needs about 1/7 the amount of sulfer based acid (a pollutant) as wood pulp, and completely sidesteps the use of harmful chlorine bleach (which has been known to pollute rivers) with the greener hydrogen peroxide. Henry Ford created the first biodeisel with marijuana. Your founding fathers grew marijuana by the acres.

But I digress. The point I would like to make is that Alcohol use is more dangerous and less useful when compared to marijuana. So to answer your question: Yes, yes I do support a recently illegal drug. Marijuana is our prohibition.

Hemp - at least the type of hemp typically used to make rope, paper, etc. - is not the same stuff as Marijuana.  Do keep that in mind.

As much as I may disagree with it, I do understand the "rationale" behind outlawing marijuana.  There is no rational rationale behind outlawing hemp.

For the record, I don't smoke marijuana (or hemp, but that'd be crazy) and have no desire to.
