I'm annoyed at the fact I still have 7 trophies to go in SSBM and I'm having trouble deciding on which one to play.

NSMB is winning out, though.

I still have a while to get the other trophies.

I think the name fits.  It borrows things from every Mario platformer, but most heavily from the NES games, so a World title wouldn't fit.  It borrows the level ending from SMB, so it's too much of a nostalgia game to be called SMB4.

Ahh, the wonderful trophy hunt of Smash Bros. What trophies do you have left? Maybe I could offer some advice.

I just need to beat All Star Mode with the characters I never touch.  I have all the others.

At least, I'm pretty sure I have all the others, as the "lottery" stopped working for me...i.e. no matter how many coins I put in, the chance of a new trophy remains at 0.00%.

I'm getting really cheesed off of NSMB.

I can't seem to find the first star coin in world 6-2.  Damnit.

Only when I wonder what happens when they make a sequel. Do they call it "Newer Super Mario Bros."?

New Super Mario Bros. 2 almost makes it sound like it'd be a sequel to Super Mario USA... not that that would necessarily be a bad thing.

Did you get the trophy for snagging all of the bonus point criterias? For example, going through Classic/Adventure/All Star mode without getting hit once (I seriously gave up on that one, got to the last match in All Star mode without getting hit before a wrench hit me and I nearly split the controller in two).

I really love this game.  I am working on world 4 and 5 at the same time now...and I must say that the difficulty really ramps up after world 3.  The game feels so classic and beautiful.

I do think some of the extra moves they have used really weren't neccessary (At least not yet.)  For instance, double jumping and triple jumping aren't neccessary yet.

The Shell Mario is a terrific powerup that really pushes your skills to the max.  I see this powerup being used by expert gamers to complete speedruns and such.

I picked up the game last night; beat the first world in about an hour.  Thus far I really like the game.  My biggest complaint is the controls feel a little too loose.  I'm having difficulty stomping on multiple goombas in succession.  I tend to undershoot them because Mario doesn't more as far as I think he should.  I also had a problem in the stage 1-5 (the second mushroom stage); somehow I managed to miss the same jump five times in a row.  I felt like the biggest idiot ever.  I'm getting used to the controls, but it's just taking a while.  Anyone else having the same problem adjusting?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I haven't touched a Mario game in a while, so I didn't have to adjust from one of the prior games in the series...I was pretty much zooming my way through stages after the first few...

"I also had a problem in the stage 1-5 (the second mushroom stage); somehow I managed to miss the same jump five times in a row."

I did the same thing.  Mario seems a little slippery.  He doesn't stop on a dime.  It's not a problem per say, I'm just not used to it.  It actually feels a lot like the first SMB.

One thing I've noticed is that, even after years of experience, I still move the controller around a lot when I'm playing a platformer.  The problem is I can't really do that when the screen is attached to the controller.  So I find it hard to force myself to hold the DS still.

Had a friend pick it up for me when he went to Baton Rouge yesterday, I'm on world. . . five or six, can't recall.  The place after the snow area.
So far, absolutely awesome.  The controls seemed to loose at first, but now I'm perfectly used to them and doing fine.  The platforming is awesome, and I love the new elements.  Next sentence is a minor spoiler: Especially like the castle where you just move up vertically on that platform while avoiding spike balls.

Ian, I also move while playing platformers.  I noticed today, I was playing while my cat was sitting on my lap, and I kept bothering it because my leg bounced a little every time I jumped, trying to get a little higher

More impressions later, but halfway-ish through the game, I like it a lot.

I just saw the commercial for this game on TV, and it also advertised the DS lite. Now I'm pissed cause I have to wait till June 11th to to play this game, cause the DSL doesn't get released till then.

Actually I will have to wait even longer than that cause I doubt they will release it in black until july or august. What really sux is that the game looked extremely fun and fast paced in the commercial and I want to go buy it and play it NOW, but I will not buy a DSL till it is released in black.

This game is "sick" as the kids like to say.

The controls did take a little practice at first, but I'm used to them now.  I think it is more like the original.  In fact, the designer said the game was intended to be a tribute to the original, not necessarily the "true" sequel to the Super Mario Bros/Super Mario World games.

I love it!  The thing that separates this from Super Princess Peach (which was also very good, but not nearly as good as this) is that they have a new surprise in practically every level...the level designs are great.  SPP had good level design, but it felt very samey after a while.  The game is also harder, but that's...whatever.

I don't know why I'm comparing it to Super Princess Peach, since many here probably never even played that, I guess it's just that they're both in the Mario universe and SPP is the last platformer I played.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Got the game a while ago and I must say it was well worth the wait.  Nintendo captured the feel of the old ones perfectly.  I haven't had any problems with the controls, but I'm like Bill and haven't played one of the older ones in a long time so that might be part of it.

I'm only on World 5 right now but the level design so far is just amazing.  Each level manages to have it's own unique feel to it.  Plus the game has a great difficulty to it that requires good skills to get past certion parts and discover the secrets in the levels.

I haven't been playing it nearly that much, but I have gotten to one of the two unvisited worlds, and I've gotten quite a lot of extra coins and levels.
I suspect I'll have all of that within a week or two, though.  I'm about to take a six hour car trip, so that'll help

So I just beat the game, but I haven't BEAT the game yet...  (I haven't gotten all the star coins or finished the two worlds that I skipped)

I have to say, it was a lot of fun, but it wasn't goddamn awesome like I had hoped.  Instead of a cape we get a blue suicide shell?  I dunno.  It was also really easy for me, much easier than I remember the old games being on the first run through.  Maybe I'm just older and more coordinated now.

For me... 7.5-8.0 range....  If I get some time this week I may submit a seperate review to the higher ups and see if they want to run it.... (assuming I actually completely finish it first, as my opinion may change)

I miss the cape too ;___;  I'm also not a fan of the overworld either, but at least's it's better than SMB3's overworld HATE.  But even so, what I've played so far has been awesome, in the 9.0's for me (unfortunatley I've had a ton of work this since I got it yesterday and I haven't gotten much time to play it).

Nothing has come close to matching Super Mario World though, and I don't think anything ever will.  Only SMW and Link's Awakening earn perfect 10's in my book, they're the only two games which I consider absolutely perfect.
