Microsoft employees just as delusional as Ken Kutaragi
« on: February 08, 2006, 04:07:35 PM »
Is it just me or do higher ups in the video game industry live in their own fantasy worlds of make believe??

Anyway here is just some interesting comments made by Peter Moore:

'he'd love to see Miyamoto "bringing his incredible content and his incredible vision for what gaming should be to the Xbox."'
he would even "give up my house, too" if that's what it took to get Shiggy on board"
www.palgn.com.au

There is no way Miyamoto would ever defect to Microsoft he is too heavily invested in Nintendo.  Peter Moore is definately just stiring the pot with these comments.  In fact I think Peter Moore should be more concerned with how the XBOX 360 is doing in Japan and that its still non existant in Australia.

Well he is just telling the truth, but yeah, even entertaining that thought to the media seems pretty unprofessional especially when he says nonesense like "Durr, I would give up his house to get the essential heart of my competitor," as if that could even be funny...

Some videogame journalist will take that the wrong way and announce Nintendo is going third party, it's only a matter of time.

Microsoft put on the crazy hat last E3 when they set their goal of selling 1 billion Xbox 360s.

Although, that could have been a bad joke, because come on.

They said 1 billion players, I think, but that's still insane.

Assuming they really could get everyone in the household to play, and an average family of four people, that's be at least 250 million Xbox 360s.  That's so incredibly stupid.  The PS2 barely has a fraction of that number.

I remember one E3 where a Sony guy was bragging that the PSX was beating the GCN and Xbox.  Not the PS2, but the original PlayStation.  He said it so arrogantly as if it would keep being that way and everyone was laughing at him, but he kept going as if he thought they were laughing with him.  Like, wake up, sheesh.

Are there even 1 billion people wealthy enough to afford a console?

Uh, but my impression was that quote came from a 1up interview where they asked him what he would give up to have Miyamoto work for Microsoft.  He can't really be blamed that they asked him a stupid question.

All three videogame companies are insane.  Nintendo says just as much delusional crap as Sony and MS.  Before that Sega was insane too.  All the companies that never amounted to anything in the game industry like 3D0, Nokia or Philips were obviously nuts.  Atari supposedly made more copies of Pac-Man for the Atari 2600 then there were systems sold so they were obviously delusional.

If you make videogame systems you're a delusional lunatic or at the very least you will become one at some point.

I really wish questions could be asked at these things.  Like when that Microsoft guy was all, like, "we're going to reach a billion players", instead of the odd snicker in the audiebce and a few people thinking "did he just say a billion?", someone should actually stand up and ask, "did you just say a billion?  How many Xbox 360s do you think you'll have to sell?  Don't you realize you'd have to sell multiple times more than the PS2 and GBA combined and have enough people playing on each of them to even come close to that?", etc.  And then people would see how dumb the statement was instead of just snickering it off.

I also think instead of separate conferences they should be held like a debate between political leaders.  One guy would be, like, "we have this game" and show a video clip and then someone else would interrupt with, "that's just a rip-off of a game we had, and now here's an even better version", and then the third guy would be all "we sell more hardware than you do so it doesn't matter", etc.  Then it would be a competition to see who can show off the best stuff at the right times until the others are left speechless.  I guess no one would agree to that unless they were confident in their product lines, but the way some of them sound, they really should do this to put their money where their mouth is (or something).

Interestingly, last E3 G4 was going to have a spot talking to reps from all 3 companies at the same time. When Sony and Microsoft heard that Reggie was coming, they both backed out. Reggie proceeded to do the interview then suggested out of the blue they take questions from the floor. The man's spine is made of steel I tell you, steel!

I heard the same thing about Reggie, but I can't honestly remember if I heard it firsthand or just as a rumour.  Reggie certainly has +20 Charisma.

I think this is it, from GameSpot not G4. He mentions their lack of attendence in the beginning of the interview, I believe. I'm downloading now--will clarify later.

Edit: He mentions it at 13 minutes.
