Saying that the exclusion of voice chat was to keep the rating kid friendly is not likely. After all, you can create your own avatar which everyone will see. I'm expecting to see many a pixelated genitalia or swear word over my opponent's cars.

I really dont think that the 32x32 pixel with only 16 colors is going to allow a detailed penis, and in any case Im sure Nintendo will ban any ofenders, while tracking all voice chat activity to be sure there arent any swear words is kind of imposible.

My Phallus-Falcon on F-Zero GX and countless obscene Animal Crossing signs/clothes/umbrellas/etc. say otherwise...
It probably is both an attempt to keep the E rating (semi)constant while playing online and to cut bandwidth requirements.

I'm pretty pissed about Mario Kart DS too. How dare it offer an extremely solid single player and local multiplayer game. Don't even get me started about offering online gameplay that doesn't let me scream into the microphone like those cool kids on Xbox Live! do while racing, Nintendo should be shot for that!

Where is the evidence to support that? I don't think any online gaming service would be immune from those type of responses from their base.

I think Nintendo did a smart thing keeping smack talk out of Mario Kart.  

1)It is distracting and just more information that may cause Lag
2)It prevents cursing or any bad communication to happen among players.
3)It has become the most annoying thing about playing online games is listening to the ignorant banter.
4)I don't want to try to understand what people are trying to tell me through the DS microphones.

How does that say otherwise? I never said it was impossible, but dekals are a lot easier to track down and ban than whole conversations.
