Eh, you're reading the comic strip at PA? Isn't that a waste of time?

Sorry about the lack of legs... I'm lazy.  I should have put a black border around the entire pic, so you could see that the bottom halves are cut off by the framing.

Of course, if I wasn't lazy, I would have slapped Reggie's actual head on there... But that'd be too much work...

I think Game Asylum is retarded, what about you guys? Christmas 2005? A $300 launch price? Nintendo couldn't make 2005 if their lives depended on it, and it's INCREDIBLY unlikely that the Rev will be any more than about $250.

Yeah, even if Nintendo did have this up their sleeves and planned on having the Rev release this christmas all along (which is incredibly unlikely), I don't think that the price would be that much...nor do I think that Game Asylum would find out before anyone else.

Hmm considering inflation they have released cheaper consoles every generation?  I wonder when they'll decide to deviate...maybe this gen?

Anway, more onto topic.  I know many of you don't really like IGN...namely Matt but he keeps saying that the controller will be shown at TGS.  His newest mailbag quote:

IGNCUBE mailbag (Sep. 1st)
Quote

The Controller

Hey Matt,is Revolution supposed to be shown at the Tokyo Games Show, or is [site] yankin' my chain?

Matt responds: Any report that claims to have a copy of Iwata's speech is false. These speeches are often not written until days before the events and only a handful of people would have access to them. That noted, there will be Revolution news at TGS and sources have indicated that the company would like to unveil the controller at the event. Again, it should be a very interesting month.

With the amount of times he's saying this will happen if he's wrong he'll probably get a record number of hate-mails or something.  If only we new 100% from Ninty themselves.  Then I'd suggest a countdown or something because with all this speculaiton and guessing and debating this would be a huge thing for this forum.  It may actually take away a lot of our material to talk about...but then again once we know we can have a hay-day on how it can be used.  Hopefully they show a few games too that can get us hyped up once again.

2 weeks and counting?

Looks like we finally have some answers ... as to when the real answers will arrive. Though knowing Nintendo we'll probably get more new questions than anything else. But I'm not worried.
Nintendo has proven with the DS that it knows what it's doing.
It made an incredible system, advertised it well, created incredible games for it, got key third-parties to make incredible games for it, and made it a big success. The DS's Fall line-up is IMO by far the greatest Fall line-up of any game system ever created. The DS's only problem is that it was perhaps rushed to market and it took a while for its real potential to kick in. Fortunately, it appears that the Rev won't have the same problem or, if it does, it won't be nearly as bad. Nintendo has proven it knows what it's doing (at least as of recent) and whatever the REV ends up being, it's sure to be amazing.

BTW, speaking of comics. Check the latest at PGC regarding Pictochat. It's funny and true and not a waste of time.

I disagree with you on the DS.  I think it's a great system that's looking really good this Christmas, but it had mediocre launch games and it took about 6-8 months for Nintendo to finally release a decent number of worthwhile games.  If Nintendo launches Revolution like that, it will be their least popular home console yet.

Well, Matt only said they'd like to show the controller.  I really think Nintendo should bite the bullet and do a full-scale unveiling at TGS, I think the time is right.  If Iwata at least announces the date of the full-scale unveiling (and that date is before U.S. Thanksgiving) I'll be a happy camper.  If Nintendo waits much longer, Xbox 360 will be here and backwards compatibility and free online will be the only reason for gamers to wait for the Revolution.  Well, that and the great potential for Xbox 360 suckiness - still, I think it's time.  I can't wait!

That's my opinion, not yours.

Even ignoring Matt's comments I'm pretty much of the idea that it's TGS or bust for the Rev.  Anything after that is just too close the Xbox 360 launch.  No one is going to give a sh!t if they go any later.  At the time I felt they should have debuted at E3 and I still think that.  Waiting even longer than TGS would just be stupid.

There's a point where "they'll steal our idea" ceases to be excentric and becomes insane.  If they don't show the Rev at TGS, when the f*ck are they going to show it?

I agree, it seems like the mystery concerning the controller isn't enough to hold Nintendo anymore. They haven't given us any minor facts to keep our attention, either. Something like more details on the download service (pricing, selection, etc.) or a little clip or screenshot of a couple games. However, the time for minor tidbits is way past and I think that now is the time to unveil this sucker once and for all.

Does anyone know how large the gap was between a large-scale GameCube unveiling and its release, for comparison?
Thanks for listening.

Spaceworld 2000 in August was the GameCube's debut (home of the original realistic Zelda demo). Very few details were known about it before then. There were rumors that the system would be called "Star Cube" and that "Star Road" was the name of the internet connectivity network. Pricing was not discussed until later -- a few weeks after E3 2001, with the Japanese launch being that August.

So there was a 12 month span between solid details and the Japanese launch. As an aside, Nintendo was never quite this anal about supressing details from developers this late in the game, though. So that part is different.

Their excuse for not discussing pricing until much later was due to the impact it'd have on financial numbers. So even if we get hardware specs and some demos, it's possible that we won't hear about pricing, other than that it will be "competitive", for a little while longer.

Edit: I still have the original videos that PGC filmed from Spaceworld 2000 (cheers when seeing a Luigi game, the audible grunts of Billy pissing his pants at a very alpha looking Wave Race, etc). PGC doesn't have them on their servers anymore. Boy those were fun times.
"wow."

That has a real good ring to it.  Sounds like an enemy in a low-buget kung-fu movie or something.  Brilliant.
