Not worth it at all. I love Arrested Development (my favourite show at the moment), but such few people watch it even after it won an Emmy (which made no difference - the 1st season's overall ratings were better than the 2nd season's) that it's a waste of advertising money. And I don't think that the audience is the target market that Nintendo is looking for.

Taken by itself, no it doesn't seem to offer much in the way of returns.  But a closer look reveals a stronger marketing push from FOX, believe it or not, a new night, and continued accolades from critics.  All of which is very similar to Seinfeld going into its third season on NBC.  I believe you jump on board with something before it hits big.   Besides, always better to advertise everywhere, than nowhere.

"Advertise at Blockbuster."

No brainer there. What was a big problem with the Cube? The rental stores treated it like sh!t from the beginning. Nintendo could overcome that problem by having some promotion with Blockbuster to encourage rentals early on. The problem was that nobody carried Cube games because nobody rented them yet nobody rented them because nobody had them. Nintendo makes a big hooplah with Blockbuster at launch ensuring that every launch game is available and some deal like a free rental with every Rev purchase and problem solved.

Two weeks after the GC launch, my local Blockbuster had employees tellling me Nintendo may go out of business, so they don't stock the GC like the other two consoles.  I wanted to punch him in the ear, but I figured demanding Nintendo to actually offer incentives and advertising in store would be the more peaceful solution.

I'm honestly not sure what Nintendo can do, it appears their stuff gets snubbed by most stores and rental places. For example, unless this is localized, I see much more in the way of PSP accessories and games than Nintendo DS items yet they both are relatively close sales wise. The GC section in stores are usually quite small even though it appears its games still sell out. I'm not sure if this is because of store bias or because companies like Sony and MS are able to buy more shelf space, but it is frustrating especially when it deals with the NDS (which is why I believe NDS staying neck and neck with PSP is quite good considering which one is more out in the open!).

Moving to a new time slot is usually bad for a show instead of good, at least in my opinion.  See Family Guy, Titus...basically every comedy Fox debuted on Sunday and then moved to a different night (except maybe Bernie Mac).  Seinfeld gained from moving to Thursday nights because people were already watching NBC on Thursday nights.  As far as I can tell, Sunday is already Fox's biggest night...it's definitely the biggest night for comedies.

Oh well, that's off-topic anyway.

An MTV launch may tick off hardcore gamers, but I ask you: what dedicated Nintendo fan is going to change his mind about buying a Revolution because it debuted on MTV?  If Nintendo gives us good sequels to certain games, that's all it will take to sell practically every person here on Revolution.  Having said that, a "real" debut followed shortly by an MTV debut would be an equally good or better idea.  I also agree that Nintendo could screw it up and look out of touch, but I think all you need is Reggie and a focus on the T and M rated games to look in touch.
That's my opinion, not yours.

While I agree with you,  there are some notable exceptions.  All have one thing in common-they moved to a slot behind or ahead of an already hoighly rated show.  Arrested Developement should be put on before 24.  But that can't happen because of tyhe schedule.  Maybe after House?  I already forgot what night AD has been moved to.  Hopefully not Wednesday or Friday.

But anyway, the point is, Nintendo can advertise everywhere, and saturate the viewers of any show with Nintendo goods.  The advertisements have to be 'cool' of course, or they lose the big time effect.  There has to be something so kick ass that people talk about it the next day.

Cartoon Network more so than Fox or MTV. Let's face it, who here watches MTV more than CN? I think you would get a larger more diverse demographic with CN. I watch it (27) and my son watches it (3), hell everybody I know that can watch it does. It's the only common channel in my circle. Friends, co-workers, young and old.

Truth be to they could broadcast on any network, radio, infomercial, newspaper article, ice cream truck (Mr. Softy) or bubble gum card just give me something.

TVG has been in touch with Lionhead who confirmed that Molyneux did indeed make such comments which leads to the suggestion that both quotes did happen and are not the product of imagination that many have now labelled them as; so Naka-san under a strict NDA but describing the Revolution controller as “pleasantly surprising”, while Molyneux reminds us never to underestimate Nintendo.

TVG is expecting a Revolution announcement to occur very soon and will be at a Nintendo event tomorrow dubbed “Christmas comes early this year…”; we’ll have further information very shortly…
"Christmas comes early this year"? when was this announced? is that the speech at TGS?

p.s. Arrested development wasn't cancelled? There is going to be another season?

Yes indeed!  It starts soon, too.  That's why they were having the Friday night AD marathons.

Jeez, on second thought, I think it was moved to Fridays, which always spells doom.  Then again, I think the X files were on Fridays, so who knows?

"Christmas comes early this year" is a pretty odd name for an event.  Does that mean that the Rev debut is like Christmas and it's coming early?  Or is Nintendo pulling a Saturn and releasing the Rev before Christmas?  I'm assuming it's the former.

I assume that if something was going down tomorrow we would get a little more notice about it.  It's kind of silly to have a "named" event and then have no build up to it at all.

I'll assume nothing's going down.  Better to be surprised by a debut tomorrow instead of disappointed about a no-show that wasn't promised in the first place.

Yeah I rather be surprised at something myself. This is getting to be unbearable. I don't know how much more of this waiting I can take.

Edit: There are "other" boards that you may or may not know of that have just gone completely off the deep end. "Pure madness".

That sentance is horrible  In the first half they say there will be an announcement "very soon," and in the second half they define "very soon" as "tomorrow."  Not syaing it means anything, it was just poorly constructed as if they were making it up as they went along, oh ho ho

"Christmas comes early this year" is a very strange title.  Perhaps Nintendo, using the Revolution's new features, has found out that Jesus was really born on December 24 due to time zone differences.

Now the last thing Nintendo needs is another Never Happening fiasco, however it could be worth noting that a European event is scheduled for August 24th, in which we’re promised Christmas will come early! If such an announcement were to figure then similar events would have to be planned across the globe, and to present knowledge this isn’t the case.

So what are they going to reveal? I think it's too soon for controller or price or release date. Maybe some game screenshots and announcement of 3rd party titles. I'd be happy with that.

D@MN that serious gamer dude is good at spreading hype and rumor.  For being a complete fake, he made stated that the Revolution is done and able to be launched at anytime, and then stated that exact quote of "christmas comes early."

He must have read that article or heard about it or something and plugged it into his lies, but geez to do all this you must be reading everything and trying to build the perfect amount of half-truths to get away with his BS and seem believable.

What if Revolution comes early?  Would it be bad to release a system you have hyped at all?  Yes it would.  So obviously that name is probably just talking about the treat in knowing about the Revoultion.  But having it titled Christmas comes early...THIS early, doesn't make sense either.

Unless this is an announcement for a larger event.  Which is my bet.  If this information is true, I can see Nintendo just announcing a date for the big reveal and perhaps a small video clip.

Here's what Cubed3 has to say..

Quote

At the start of the month we got invites to a Nintendo 'Christmas Comes Early' party in London. A few days ago the Internet exploded with lots of excited fanboys stupidly speculating about a major Nintendo announcement at some point during this week.

Today, we looked at our shiney invitation again and something hit us: this is the major event. Basically, Nintendo are hosting a party in London for some press members. There will be lots of heated discussion, beer and fun...but no major Revolution announcement or otherwise. So, not what you've all been waiting for, but rather a lovely piss up for us to go to on a rainy Thursday evening. Sorry folks, but we'll have a pint for you to drown your sorrows.
They spelled "shiny" wrong...

Oh, and Spak, PGC doesn't censor damn (good thing too)

If this "Christmas Comes Early" thing isn't it then on what basis was Matt's "wouldn't call it a guess" based on?  I would assume that for Matt to say something like that he would have some knowledge of an upcoming announcement.

I'm fairly sure even Matt has claimed that he has been told that news will be coming "very soon" and he expected it to be within a week...The fact that NoE guy said the very same thing only supports this...HOWEVER, "very soon" could mean many things to many people, and could happen at TGS for all we know...(which to me seems like the most likely time anyway, considering that Mario's birthday is on the 20th...)

Matt stated that all he got was a very soon, but he assumed or felt it was implied that soon meant sooner rather than later and that it could be a week or so.

He then stated that he is fairly sure it will happen BEFORE TGS, but if it didn't it would DEFINATELY happen at TGS.  He didn't mention it in those words, but it was fairly obvious.

What is really funny is, it just proves he really knew nothing at all.

Another thing to remember is we are all assuming that this announcement is coming out of nowhere, but Nintendo could be communicating to the press and keeping things hush hush until the event...and that could mean it could be a fairly big announcement and unveiling whenever and whereever it is.

Though, I have to ask Bill, why do you believe it will happen on Mario's Birthday besides the significance of Mario's B-Day...does Nintendo have a track record of big announcements, or any announcements on that day?

Bill:  I would rather get a clip from a Mario animated movie...I have always thought that done right Mario could be an amazing animated adventure...Zelda could too, but Zelda would be easier and harder in alot of ways.

Mario could be turned into a great fun 2 hour movie, where Zelda would need to be an OAV series, for a longer story.
