I see what all know its fake but here's some good observation from a Gamespot member.

Quote

OK,

Heres what I've got.

If you go to the real press.nintendo.com... you will see it requires a UserName and Password to enter.

Now in the URL line type press.nintendo.com/object?id=7972 That is the URL that appeared in the screen grab in question.

It says... "Object 7972 is not displayable."

Now change that number at the end into 7973.

It says the same thing right?

Now change that number into something higher or random.

It says... "Object ID specified does not or no longer exists."

You see, that doucument referred to in the picture in question did/does exist, as well as another one 1 digit higher.

So, thoese two doucuments do exist. A random number is most likely to come up empty.

This means that either the guy got lucky to know the number of a doucument, or he really did see a document with that number.

Heres a possiblity, he wasn't a member to the press section, just a small site/news publication who likes to check that page to get the public information that doesn't require a password.

However, maybe he stumbled upon the document posted in the public area my mistake. Nintendo, quickly fixed this error and moved it to the members section, hence the reason "Object 7972 is not displayable" rather than "Object ID specified does not or no longer exists."

Well thats what I've got right now. Ain't nothing like some fun spectulation at 6:30 in the A.M.

What about boxer briefs? they're a little bit of both, and very comfortable too.

As much as I love Penny Arcade that seems a little too low profile for the debut.  The only site that covers PAX is Penny Arcade itself.  Would the big game press even be there?  Though Nintendo could always have told IGN to come.  That would explain how Matt knows and it would make sure someone is there.  It realistically wouldn't take long for news to travel but it would be nice to get personal accounts of the debut from different sites.

Aside from the lack of coverage debuting at PAX would be a good idea because it would create tremendous goodwill in the Penny Arcade community.  That's not just Nintendo fans, that's hardcore gamers in general.  If almost every forum member at Penny Arcade bought a Rev at launch I think it would really help sell the Rev to hardcore gamers.  It would build up a lot of word of mouth.  Hell that's pretty much how Katamari Damacy and all of Nippon Ichi's games sold.

Ian:

After reading your post are you for or against a Penny Arcade news release?

I don't think this news about to be released is going to be a full revealing of the system.  I think its going to be something more subtle, and something to tide us over for awhile.

I would like to see some in game videos running real time of games being released...and perhaps technical specifications for the system...and perhaps even more information about the download service.  Give us a vision of the future without showing us the future would be great.

I don't have to see the controller, I don't have to see any other accessories, I just need to know work is still being done on the system and visual proof it will rock.  I just want to see something to make me smile, and go OH YEAH!!!

I'm guessing Nintendo will not announce anything at PAX, but maybe it's bigger than I think.

I hate to say this, but what Nintendo needs is a launch on MTV.  Show more games and more interesting stuff than the XBox 360 MTV launch, but otherwise, yeah, go for it.  Whore some celebrities with no clue, talk about polygons and other stupid crap, but mostly, show off what makes the system unique.  The point is to reach the casual crowd...while still delivering the goods that the hardcore crowd has been watiing for.

Of course the most likely scenario is that Nintendo will go to some already large gaming event, or will announce a big press conference, and then show us what's going on.  That personally suits my tastes way more than a cheesy MTV launch, but I  think that Microsoft had the right idea and the wrong execution.

Edit: summarized thoughts.
That's my opinion, not yours.

An MTV pre-launch is a good idea, but I'm panicking at the thought that Nintendo's marketing department will just get it wrong, and make it their biggest blunder to date.

Nintendo, sadly, seems to be "all about the games" and not about their presentation and marketing at the moment.

Someone mentioned that over in talkback, and how it is possible that since the interview was only possible through the use of RTL II'a money and equipment, that they have exclusive rights to said interview and asked that guy to take the content down.

Which would make since that they want to preserve the content for a piece that they are gonna do on the show, but it would make more sense to use that blog to bring in more watchers to the show to see the interview in whole.

Nothing can be worse than what Microsoft did on MTV.  It was the definition of "pathetic."

Well guys, I fly out for PAX tomorrow morning so I will be there.  I mentioned my "secret event" theory back when i preregisterred months ago.  That has been changed on teh schedule to "Watch the guys draw monday's comic" so I doubt that is it.

The interesting part is though, that Nintendo did not have a presence there last year, but are going to this year.

Anyway,  I will have my camera on hand and I have internet there and at the hotel so I will hit all you guys up if I find anything.  My personal theory is that either wednesday or thursday will be a large scale press unveiling and it will be available to play at PAX.  =P

Well maybe that's more of a dream than a theory.

Also, Ian hit it right with PAX's fanbase.  Nintendo has no shot and the MTV trend market.  Debuting there woudl be a waist of money.  Debuting at a convention run by a video game site with a HUGE fanbase of all different types of gamers is the way to go.

Judging by the information he provided in the comments of the post, I believe the removal of the pictures/quotes had something to do with some drama with the gaming TV station he works for.  I don't think he's allowed to say anything on the topic until it's aired on the station.

An MTV showing in theory isn't a bad idea but I can think of few factors that can screw it all up.

1. Hardcore gamers don't like mainstream pandering and Nintendo's fanbase is pretty hardcore.  So they run the risk of allienating their fanbase my going to MTV.  MS got a lot of flack from the hardcore crowd for their MTV stunt.

2. Nintendo just isn't very cool so showing up on MTV might have the opposite effect.  It might just expose how incredibly out-of-touch Nintendo is to the MTV crowd.

I'm thinking that the problem with this idea is DEBUTING on MTV.  I think the debut should be through the usual gaming media channels so that us fans can see the controller, specs, price, launch date, and launch games at our own pace with a significant amount of detail.  We won't get that level of detail on MTV.  Later Nintendo can have their own glorified infomercial on a mainstream TV station where there's less detail and more hype.  Why does it have to DEBUT on MTV?  What difference does that make?

One thing I think Nintendo should definately do aside from maybe an MTV show is to have a segment on the Foxbox on Saturday mornings.  They already have Nintendo oriented shows like Kirby and F-Zero (or at least they did last time I watched the Foxbox) on there so having little breaks between shows where Reggie and some host are showing off the different features would be a good way to get info out to a key Nintendo market.  Most blocks of kids shows on Saturday morning and on weekday afternoons are encased in a big block that has a common host and segments and such (when I was a lad we had the Disney Afternoon) so putting Reggie as a guest for those segments is a no brainer idea.

Advertise during Arrested Developement
Not worth it at all. I love Arrested Development (my favourite show at the moment), but such few people watch it even after it won an Emmy (which made no difference - the 1st season's overall ratings were better than the 2nd season's) that it's a waste of advertising money. And I don't think that the audience is the target market that Nintendo is looking for.

"Advertise at Blockbuster."

No brainer there.  What was a big problem with the Cube?  The rental stores treated it like sh!t from the beginning.  Nintendo could overcome that problem by having some promotion with Blockbuster to encourage rentals early on.  The problem was that nobody carried Cube games because nobody rented them yet nobody rented them because nobody had them.  Nintendo makes a big hooplah with Blockbuster at launch ensuring that every launch game is available and some deal like a free rental with every Rev purchase and problem solved.

... or maybe (this would kinda suck) release one or two titles early through Blockbuster. I'm not saying a huge margin, maybe 1-2 weeks tops, and not a premier title, either.
I'll shut up now...
