Actually that's a well known fact.  That incident showed that the higher ups at Sega didn't give a sh!t about Sonic since he was never popular in Japan.  Which is why Sega has never allowed Sonic Team to have enough time to properly even finish developement of a 3d Sonic, and that's why every single 3d Sonic game was a rushed, buggy mess.
It's always been common knowledge that a vast majority of Sega's more famous Sonic Team icons (Sonic, NiGHTS) have a bigger fanbase in America and Europe, and we are the most vocal of them.

To bad they don't listen to us.

I still stand by my belief that Yuji Naka and Sega of Japan ruined Sonic after that Sonic X-Treme tragedy.

I wonder what Hirokazu Yasahara is up to, he was the level designer for all three Genesis Sonic games (and he helped out a bit on X-Treme). Maybe Sega should ask him for help?

I will give SEGA the benefit of the doubt, they did listen to their fans when they set out to make a 3-D Sonic game with 2-D game play. The problem, however, is that their focus on the gameplay went all over the place. Why do we even need the Warehog? Why do we need to explore towns for pointless cutscenes? Why all this extraneous bullshit?

This is the problem with SEGA and Sonic Team. Sonic’s name has fallen so much that the only recent thing that he is remembered for is for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. All Sonic has to keep him afloat are his loyal fans, and these said fans exist in North America and Europe. Sonic was never popular in Japan, so it’s frustrating that SEGA doesn’t listen to us when we have been pointing out the obvious for eight fucking years.

I do have some faith that they HOPEFULLY listened to us about the flaws in Sonic and the Secret Rings. It had a simple story, it wasn't all over the place gameplay wise and the level design was great. However, the camera was a bit iffy, the jumping controls were annoying, music was terrible and there were TOO many side missions. Sonic and the Black Knight looks great, but if it has flaws that weren’t fixed, then someone should consider disbanding Sonic Team/Sega Studio USA.

Or give Sonic to Nintendo, where they will treat him with respect. Which is highly unlikely to happen. (Then again, wasn’t Nintendo the reason Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games turned out okay?)

They just can't leave well enough alone and ship a game that only has the fun stuff, but feel compelled with every installment to come up with something new that's impossible for any sane human being to enjoy.  It's crap like this that makes me wish that the Sonic franchise had been buried 2 generations ago.
This.

I will write a longer two cents later.

I'm currently into Kinnikuman and it's sequal, Kinnikuman: Nisei. Nisei is known as Ultimate Muscle in the US, and it's considered the semi-good dub 4kids ever did, besides Pokemon.

Speaking of which, has anyone ever seen Sailor Moon: Abridged by Megami 33. Holy crap, that is hilarious. Megami 33 does an excellent impression of Serena and Luna from the dub. Unlike most abridged series, this one makes fun of the series itself, and the terrible dub dialog.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: New Logo... Thoughts?
« on: November 27, 2008, 02:55:53 PM »
Haha, I did a couple of searches for old Japanese Nintendo ads, and I noticed that the logo they used (in Japan) had a longer oval shape, but the same font. America used the logo we all know and love. When Japan started adopting the American logo, I doubt the Japanese cared.

But people are seriously offended by this color change? Wow... to my knowledge, Nintendo used different colors for their logo in game intros. The most common one I saw was a white against a black backdrop. It's not even a big change.

And FYI, the best Konami logo was the one with black italics. The one they used mostly in the SNES, NES days.

So Secret Rings sucks because of the god-awful music?

How about Sonic games with no Japanese voice option? It basically made Secret Rings playable, somewhat.

While this DA essay is about three years old, it makes very excellent points about Sonic games in general.

Yet what is the key point of Sonic games? Not speed, but flow. Secret Rings almost nailed it with just the running stages, but some things (camera, iffy controls, pointless missions) kept it from being the classic it deserved to be. In Sonic: Unleashed, all I see is... speed. All you do is just run fast, there is no exploration like the Genesis titles.

What a Sonic stage should be like:
- Multiple paths for different characters.
- No BOTTOMLESS PITS.
- Unquie gimmicks for each Zone.

What Sonic Rush is:
- Speed, loop, more speed, rings, more speed, another loop.
- Sprinkle in a power dash.
- More speed, more loops, more rings, no substance.

"Attention, please! I am sick of RPGs with gender-confused boy heroes with their spikey hair and ginormous swords living out an absurd ultimate fantasy. Is having your village burn down all you really need to be a champion? And a scar on your face is supposed to make you… What, dark and brooding? Try uncoordinated."

This press release wins everything.

I think Marvelous, Sega, Capcom are Nintendo's best friends this gen.

First one: Hmm...

Second one: Highly likely, though they are thinking they are Nintendo's saviors due to the all the core vs. casual bullshit that seems to be flinging around.

Third one: I want my Zack and Wiki sequal, plz thk u.

I pretty much knew that review outlets would trash the game to high heaven. Those scores are not surprising.

I highly doubt the flaws will be fixed. Secret Rings team is still part of Sonic Team, and they have problems listening to their fans.

Sega and the developer of this game were Nintendo's principal competition.

Yuji Naka doesn't count anymore.

A fan-site called The Snake Soup did an article on the stupidest moments in MGS4, and the entire BnB unit made it to number two (number one is not too surprising...) but Ravi (the owner) made a fun little thing where you can make up stories for the BnB members.

Chances are, you will make a better story then Kojima himself.

The problem with Sonic games of today is that they are rushed out to meet a certain time period. Where Nintendo has no problem delaying a game in order to polish it up, Sega whips Sonic Team/Sega Studios USA in the ass in order to get their games out for a quick buck.

Off-topic, but a friend once asked me if I considered Yuji Naka to be Sonic's creator. I said "bull-****", as Sonic was the creation of three people. Naka was one of them, but one only needs to see the history of Sonic X-Treme in order to understand that Naka the Baka is a deserving nickname.

Sometimes I wonder what Sonic X-Treme would be like if Naka and Sega of Japan weren't such ass-tards... =(

Wow, Disney made something worse then Cinderella II.

Why the hell did everyone compare ToS's storyline to Final Fantasy X?

ToS had a more interesting cast then the entire population of Spira.

G4 has a very odd reverential/sycophantic relationship with Denis Dyack, so it's no surprise that Pereira and Sessler are defending this game.  The myriad previews of the game on X-Play over the last few months got me interested in the game, but the demo killed all that last month.

G4 is like that with other assortment of games as well. They were basically whoring out Twilight Princess when it was released.

I wish SK and Rare were still with Nintendo, though the sad truth is Nintendo has changed enough that they probably wouldn't fit anymore.  I guess I wish the old Nintendo was making games with SK and Rare.  The present day casual focused Nintendo has little in common with either developer.

Nintendo hasn't changed. Second party compenies are let go when the owners think they are not worth it anymore. In the last seven years, we've lost: Left Field, Silcon Knights and Rare. What did we gain?: EAD Tokyo, Skip and Monolith Soft. Yes, E3 2008 was disheartening, but everyone is treating it like it all doom and gloom. Nobody seems to remember E3 2003.

General Gaming / Personal thoughts on the Kingdom Hearts series?
« on: August 20, 2008, 07:57:35 PM »
Considered by many to be one of the most legendary PS2 titles and giving birth to a fanbase that cosplays it to numerous horrors and writes Yaoi fanatics because only one of the main characters is a female (and to be fair, one of the villains), Kingdom Hearts seems like another Square-Enix classic... and someone on GameFAQS had the balls to compare this game to the Gamecube's game line-up at the time of it's release.

Well, I replayed it, and I fail to see what makes this game legendary. The battle system is boring, the worlds are lifeless (which makes it suck more because they are based on DISNETY WORLDS, and they bastardized Alice In Wonderland), but god forbid it has to be popular because Tetsuya Nomura developed and it's a Final Fantasy/Square-Enix cross-over.

Only positive thing I can find is that it's better then Cinderella II. I can't believe I made that comparison.

FFVII will never appear on a Sony console. It's basically Sony's whore.

I'd rather have a Secret Of Mana remake, just keep Yoichi Wada away from it.
