Nintendo Downloads - September 1, 2016

So what came out this week besides Picross 3D Round 2? EVERYTHING. But most importantly, Axiom Verge.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/43271/nintendo-downloads-september-1-2016

For the second time in three weeks, the eShop list for North America is brought to you by Longcat - and we knew this BEFORE the Direct dropped some major bombs. There's another 14 games between the two platforms, with 11 on Wii U and six from one publisher (and one of them is a five game bundle). However, the biggest game in the list is of course, Axiom Verge. It's been a long journey for the game from former site director/RFN host Jonny Metts burning Reggie over it at E3 2014 to its release (disclaimer; Jonny's in the credits) but you finally get a 2D Metroid on a Nintendo console. It's also the first game of the Nindie Summer Jam (which will stretch into the fall). Since it got buried right before the Direct, here's Zach's review.

Another odd release is the minimalistic platformer 140, published by Double Fine. It won't get as much attention, but might be worth looking into. The Virtual Console release of the week is the ever-controversial but much beloved (by NWR, we gave it two 10s) The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword from the Wii. But speaking of beloved games, PICROSS 3D ROUND 2.

Europe gets to experience a double dose of Metroid-style action this week, as 2016 Game of the Year Metroid Prime: Federation Force is joined by the aforementioned Axiom Verge. Also continuing this week is the odd trend of getting things ludicrously late from North America with Chain Blaster. For the record, that game came out in North America the week after Earthbound hit Wii U Virtual Console. Not Earthbound Beginnings: EARTHBOUND. Thankfully, they've had occasion to bring a demo for the ride. Also on the continent is two Wii games on Virtual Console, as Skyward Sword is joined by the appropriately debuting New Play Control: Pikmin. There's also a DS game in Picross 3D.

Note: There is a Wii U retail release this week for North America, but Tumblestone released on the eShop on July 12.

$42 for Picross in Canada, have they been holed up in a shed huffing paint thinner?? I know that the Canadian dollar is tanking but even that price is egregious and downright prohibitive. I like Picross as much as the next person, but I ain't shelling out close to $50 taxes included for it.

I hear ya brother. Canadian pricing has been so egregious for about the last year or so and there's no end in sight. And it is counter-productive. My buying has slowed waaaay down because of it. It's just gone beyond a threshold I can bring myself to stomach. I never buy anything anymore unless it's on sale. There are at least a half-dozen games I would have picked up by now.
