The eighth and seventh games are Nintendo RPGs. Can you guess?
#8 - Fire Emblem
Fire Emblem finally made it to North America with this 2003 Game Boy Advance release. While this title is actually the seventh in the series (and the second on GBA), it was the first one North America and Europe got to experience. The turn-based tactical gameplay had a strong emphasis on character, especially since if a character outside of the main ones died, they were dead for good. With two different story paths and addictive gameplay, it's no wonder Fire Emblem showed up on our list. Check out our review from when the game came out for more info.

– Golden Sun

Camelot shed its Mario sports game past with this epic RPG, debuting in 2001. Modeled after classic SNES-era RPGs, Golden Sun brought with it a wonderful graphical presentation, an interesting battle system involving different Djinn creatures, and a world-spanning story that wasn't even wrapped up in the first game (the second game, The Lost Age, came out two years later). The story might been a little long in the tooth for some, but the game scratched the Japanese RPG itch succinctly. A third game in the series, subtitled Dark Dawn, came out on DS in late 2010. For two differing view points on the game, check out our positive review, and then our somewhat negative review (courtesy of RFN's Jonathan Metts).
