The NWR staff reflects on the E3 that was.
E3, oh how I love and hate thee.
Of course, just like everyone else, I had some expectations coming into E3. I was under the impression that it would become this chaotic mess that would ultimately end up with the pulling of my own hair. Much to my surprise it wasn't. I actually had quite a lot of fun.
With everyone talking about all their specific experiences I thought I would focus more on the one game that kicked off my E3 experience: Wii Sports Resort. It will go down as my official first E3 game I laid my hands on. The feeling I had when using the Wii MotionPlus in archery created the same sensation I had when I first held the Wii Remote. It was as if I was a little kid again playing video games for the first time. Ok maybe I made that sound a bit too outlandish but forgive me; it's my first E3 ever.
After that, the show floor officially opened and in a mad rush, the entire team was off checking both South and West Hall for any and all games for both Wii and DS. Given the past two years of "suck" E3 had gone through, this year was a perfect launching point for me. It wasn't too overwhelming, and over the next three days I was able to check out a good amount of games playable on the show floor. Whether it was Sin & Punishment 2, Scribblenauts or even Zephyr, I had ample time to play a ton of games and write my little notes for each of them. It was a blast.
From interviews to hands-on time to press conferences, I got to see everything that E3 had to offer. Maybe except for the after parties, but that'll be for another day. After many years of dreaming of going to E3, I finally got to live them out. Being in a convention with many like-minded individuals is too surreal for words and a dream come true.
I'll never forget my first experience with E3. It was a blast to meet everyone on staff and share lots of memories that I don't think I can share with my grandchildren. Here's looking forward to next year.
