Advance Team hits Minnesota!

by the NWR Staff - July 6, 2001, 3:54 pm EDT

Billy takes on Advance Team at Valleyfair! Hide the children! Two interviews, plenty of pictures, and a very exclusive look at what makes Advance Team tick...

I woke up extra early today to make sure I was all set for the Advance Team. I packed up all of my usual Planet reporting gear and headed on out to Valleyfair, an amusement park located in Shakopee, Minnesota. I have lived in Minneapolis for over 2 years, but never had been to Valleyfair, so not only was I going to get to chill with Advance Team, I would also get to ride some killer rides! Not a bad day of work eh? I packed up the car, picked up my buddy Ben…and we were on our way.

We had no idea where the Advance Team would have everything set up, but fortunately for us they were right by the entrance.

Gameboy Advance Summer Tour
The Booth!

Before I introduced myself, my buddy and I had to check out the games. There were about 30 different Game Boy Advances available to play in the booth. Here’s what they had available to play this time around…

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2

Iridion –3D-

Rayman Advance

Konami Krazy Racers

Super Mario Advance

F-Zero: Maximum Velocity

Earthworm Jim

Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure

Leave Me Alone, I'm Playing Rayman!
Damn connection cords!

Unfortunately there was no sign of games like Mario Kart Advance, Advance Wars, or Diddy Kong Pilot. Also, there were no stations that had any of the systems linked up for Multiplayer. For a hardcore gamer like myself this was a small disappointment, but taking into consideration the actual purpose of this tour, I was fine with it. This tour’s main focus is to promote the Game Boy Advance, and to highlight some of the launch titles. This isn’t a mini E3 by any means. It’s all about getting the Game Boy Advance some exposure. That's it.
