Blah Blah Blah - GC Launch Mayhem!

Launch Game Discussion

by the NWR Staff - November 18, 2001, 12:17 am EST

The guys talk about which launch games they are interested in and razz the ones they don't care about at all.

Max: Monkey Ball is crazy fun! I think everyone should buy this game for GameCube launch. I can't wait to try to play the multiplayer modes. They are nuts. It's hilarious to see the monkey go booking off the edge and dropping to his doom. I have no idea why.

Colin: I am afraid that even though gamers know how great a game Monkey Ball is, that the majority of casual gamers buying the system will pass it up due to it's cutesy look. Oh well, they can sit home and play their "new and improved" version of NFL Blitz while I get my Monkey Ball on... wait that sounds illegal... while I play Monkey Ball.

Max: Yeah, not just Monkey Ball, SUPER Monkey Ball. Oh, it's SUUU-PER! FABULOUS!

Colin: Yeah I can't wait for Super Monkey Ball Alpha IIV Plus Minus

Max: Dude, you're a bigger Star Wars nut than me... But I thought you weren't too excited about Rogue Leader? I mean, you probably had to get it because of the bundle but I'm telling you: it's going to be awesome.

Colin: Well, I am a big Star Wars fan, but not a big Star Wars game fan. I am hoping that this title will be the one that changes my mind. I just want Boba Fett: Bounty Hunter! Who the hell wouldn't want a Boba Fett game?!

Max: hahahaha! Yeah, no doubt. Did you see that you can fly in Vader's Tie-Fighter and shoot down Rebels as they get up in the Death Star? Anyway, the first Rogue Squadron I loved and Rogue Leader is so much more fun. I only played for a few moments at E3 but it was so smoooooooooooooth.

Moving along… I'm pretty stoked that Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 is going to be coming for launch. That's one heck of an awesome surprise from Activision

Colin: I, as always, am excited about a new Tony Hawk game! Tony Hawk 3 doesn't apear to radically change the gameplay like adding manuals did from 1 to 2, but the new levels will make for a good time none the less.

Max: Tony Hawk, sweet Tony Hawk…

I'm pretty glad Luigi is finally getting his own game too. It may be short, but there are lots of ghosts capturing fun.

Colin: I don't care if a game is short, as long as it rocks from beginning to end. And Luigi does that from what I've heard. Mario has had his time in the sun, and will have more later... hahahaha how witty... but I want to ghost bust with Luigi. Wario had better be next to shine!

Max: Well, he got the GBA game coming up, but yeah! I'd love to see a Wario GameCube game where he's stealing the riches and slapping the bitches!

Colin: I don't want another gameboy Wario game! Nintendo needs to move him up to the majors! And they'd better not give him the "oh I missed" lame ass Mario Party limey puff voice either!

Max:Yeah, he kind of has that voice in Mario Kart Super Circuit but it isn't as wussy as it was in Mario Party.

One game I think Wario would like is Midway's NHL Hitz, which is also a launch title. It seems kind of similar to our old beloved MANGULANCE Hockey, AKA Wayne Gretzky Hockey for N64. Except instead of just having an abulence drive by whenever someone get hurt, the whole emphasis is to beat the crap out of the other players. NOW THIS I THINK WE COULD GET INTO MRS. CAVALETTI!

Colin: I have the PS2 version and it is a great party game. Honestly the only thing missing is the mangulance! The one player game is horribly dull after a few games, but every gamer should make three friends and get them all together and play some Hitz. Hey I'm so cool I made 5 so we could play 3 on 3 on PS2. Or you could pull a Max and call some "overnight escorts" and pay them to play it with you. Hell, they'll even play strip Hitz!

Max: Yeah, whatever, mang... But I am looking forward to trying Hitz for myself. Hitz isn't the only sports game coming. There's Midways football Blitz, due early December. Acclaim is releasing its All Star Baseball, which always rocks and EA's Madden, which you're getting with your bundle... I'm not a football fan per say, but EA usually does a really good job with the Madden series. As long as the players' eyes don't look like they are from dead men and make me scream like the PS2 version, I will be happy.

Midway: Behind the Scenes

Colin: Blitz just isn't cool, so I am as excited about it as I was for Mortal Kombat gold for Dreamcast. You know what you're getting, get it if you want it, but don't expect anything groundbreaking. Madden is a whole other story. I'm right there with you with the Football Of the Dead eyes, but this game was great on PS2 and will be just as good if not better on the Gamecube.

Max: EA's also doing FIFA 2002: Road to the World Cup. Sega's Amusement Vision and Konami will be bringing soccer games to the GameCube too, (not to mention Midway's Red Card which is Blitz/Hitz VIOLENT soccer) but FIFA should the first soccer game and be available at launch. I'm not overly familiar with EA's previous FIFA games, though they're supposedly doing everything all new this time around and it looks pretty promising.
