It's like your very own portable jackhammer.
Screw Breaker (or Drill Dozer as it will be known in the US) is a GBA game made by Game Freak, the makers of Pokemon. In this game, you control a young girl driving a large mechanical bulldozer-like machine called the "Breakall Drillbot". However, instead of using the Drillbot to plough your way through anything, you can tunnel and burrow through obstacles by using the drill at the machine's front.
The story revolves around a crime syndicate known as The Skull Rollers, who have infiltrated your gang's hideout, seriously injured your father, and stolen your prized possession: a red diamond that belonged to your mother. With Dad out of action, it's up to you to reclaim the treasure (and possibly swipe some more while you're at it).
When you start each level, you'll only have one gear at your disposal, meaning that you'll only be able to drill for a limited time. But, as you progress through the stage, you'll find gear boxes (no pun intended) that allow you to shift your drill up a gear and drill for longer periods of time, or infinitely if you have the third gear.
Central to the game is the drilling mechanic. By holding the L Button, you'll drill anti-clockwise. Holding R will make you drill clockwise instead. As you'd expect, you can use the drill to break through walls, but it has other applications, too. You can plug the drill into a socket and wind open a garage door, point the drill up and plug into a lift which moves along a rail, controlling the direction of the lift with L and R, or even adjust air ducts!
In addition to the extra gears, there are also other power-ups that can help you progress through the worlds -- a propeller that allows you to fly in the sky, and a special screw that lets you explore underwater depths.
Screw Breaker is due out in Japan this September. A US release date is expected soon.
