Pocky & Rocky with Becky

by Zosha Arushan - July 14, 2002, 8:38 pm EDT

A Shinto priestess, a Nopino goblin, and lots and lots of enemies. Please God, let there be slowdown.

A decidedly quirky Japanese title on the Super Famicom and Super Nintendo, Pocky & Rocky was an overhead arcade title that boasted beautiful graphics, fun gameplay and was harder than all Hell to actually complete. Natsume would then release Pocky & Rocky 2 in North America some time later which added to the core gameplay by adding stores and mini-games to the mix.

Now, Natsume is about to release the next all-new adventure, Pocky & Rocky with Becky for the GBA. The story concerns the evil Hydra Dragon, who has been awakened from its long, dark sleep. With its minions it unleashed unto the world, it seeks nothing but destruction. Join Pocky the Shinto Priestess, Rocky the Nopino Goblin and their friend Becky as they rise up against the Hydra and its plans.

Each character has special attacks and may collect many magical upgrades throughout their adventure. In addition, there are hidden secrets contained within each level that only the most inventive adventurer will discover. If this is anything like the first game, expect an incredibly difficult but extremely entertaining arcade game that pits you against colourful bosses and beautiful locales.

Oh and according to the press release, when you beat the game you’ll unlock Expert Mode.

May whatever higher being you believe in pray for your soul. You’re going to need it.
