GT Advance 2: Rally Racing

by Michael Cole - April 3, 2002, 10:20 am EST

The original was hailed as the greatest handheld racer to date. See how the sequel to GT Advance is shaping up in our preview!

When The Game Boy Advance first came out, so did a little gem called GT Advance Championship Racing. Praised by many (including PGC), MTO’s racing simulation went on to sell over 150,000 copies. Now THQ is revving up for its long-awaited sequel.

The original featured a console-quality experience, but GT Advance Championship Racing 2 looks to be even more amazing. Featuring 42 new tracks boasting 3D features and weather effects, MTO hopes to heighten the driving experience as gamers travel across the globe. Drivers will need to adjust to the fourteen locations’ varying terrain and chose their vehicle wisely. And with 15 unique choices, choosing the best fit will require some experimentation. Fortunately, an audible navigator will warn you about difficult spots to help you through the complicated routes. The game features two-player racing along with six other modes of play as well as a replay option, but many will be even happier to hear of the game’s battery save. THQ has scrapped the password system, the original’s biggest hang-up in the USA, which should make this title much more accessible than its predecessor.

GT Advance Championship Racing 2 is currently planned for a third quarter release in Northern America, though importers should be able to pick the title up sooner.
