Lunar Legend

The classic Game Arts RPG will soon be in handheld form. If you don't know what all the fuss is about, you'd better check out our preview.

It's a story that's been retold many times, that of a young boy who dreams of becoming the legendary Dragonmaster, Guardian of the Goddess Althena. Alex grew up in the tiny village of Burg, the birthplace of the previous Dragonmaster. All through his childhood Alex wanted to be like his hero, Dyne and often dreamed of partaking on an epic adventure to meet the Four Dragons.

Now, Game Arts is bringing one of their most beloved games to the GBA. Titled LUNAR: Legend it is yet another remake of the classic Sega CD RPG. Previous remakes were released on the Saturn and PSX and featured entirely redone animé cutscenes along with excellent voice acting and included new scenarios. Legend will be based on those games, but due to the GBA's limitations, the cut scenes and voice will be removed.

The LUNAR battle systems are the precursor to Grandia, and during their original Sega CD debut delivered a new strategic base for game players. Your party isn't limited to one side of the screen but can move forward to engage the foe in combat. If the monster is too far away, your character will stop and have to wait until their next turn. If you do not plan properly, your party can be surrounded and quickly decimated by the enemy ranks.

One thing veterans of the series will note is the entirely redone graphics. Animations have been redrawn and the backgrounds look spectacular thanks to the developers taking advantage of GBA hardware.

However, there is one low point to this announcement: Working Designs, the sole English Distributor of LUNAR has not yet announced that it will translate the title. Rumours persist that WD has no interest in bringing over a title they just re-released a couple of years ago on PSX.
