Fire Pro Wrestling 2

by Colin Taibi - July 7, 2002, 8:41 pm EDT

The best is back with new rosters, modes, and moves!

As we move closer and closer to the release date, Spike has released new pictures that show a few new moves and in game options that are new to the Fire Pro series. New options include bringing a second person to the ring with you to act as a cornerman/manager. Whether or not they will interfere in the matches is yet to be seen, but is very likely to occur.

Just the mention of the name Firepro Wrestling causes a Pavlovian reaction throughout its dedicated and ever-growing internet community, and for good reason. No other series in any genre, arguably, has consistantly pushed the limits of detail and realism with each succesive release like the Firepro series has.

After the succesfull debut of the series as a launch title for the Game Boy Advance in Japan with Firepro Wrestling A, it is with no surprise that a new title will be released in March. While exact details on what all modes, roster additions/changes, and new moves will added to the game a few details have been reported throughout the internet. Magicbox reports:

"This game will feature 4 play modes: Dojo Mode (practice), Edit Mode (custom characters), One Night Match (tag team battle), and Management of Ring (management simulation). In One Night Match battles, new challengers may suddenly come in to challenge you randomly. The Management of Ring is a brand new simulation mode in which you play as the manager, your goal is to create your own wrestling team."

While there has been some debate over the accuracy of what "create your own wrestling team" refers to, it is safe to assume it will either have the player assuming the role of a manager of a wrestling stable, a booker, or involve you taking on the huge task of managing your own independent federation. It is reported the title's sub-heading "Yume no Dantai Unei!" translates to "The dream of managing a big organization!", so perhaps the later theory of an in-depth organization management mode is in fact what The Management of Ring mode entails.

Either way, Spike is sure to take the puroreso experience to the next level when Firepro Wrestling Final is released in March. Check back often for more screens and information as March gets closer!
