In this episode, Jonny compares Xbox games to Nintendo games in a sad effort to relate to fanboys.

There are two segments this week: New Business and News. The first part includes James ranting about King of Clubs, yet another review game that he hates. Jonny dredges up memories of Bionic Commando and even gets a bit wistful over Zack & Wiki. Greg catches up with ActRaiser, while Jon scratches the surface of Bangai-O Spirits.

In a veritable news bonanza, we bring insightful-ish analysis to a slew of EA game announcements (and one non-announcement), the new Overlord games, and various manifestations of the word "core". The show is polished off with DLC Mondays, including the first great Virtual Console game in ages. Could there be more to come?

Yay!

James is right about how Bioshock should've been, but that isn't how it turned out. I felt like the game was too run and gun and a massive letdown from what it really should've been.

Also, Jonny is right about how Actraiser forced a change in strategy at the end Boss Gauntlet. The first push through the bosses encouraged magic use for quickly wins, second time you had to ration everything. Surprisingly enough my wife wound up beating that gauntlet before me.

Good episode guys, looking forward to this, err.... next week's ;)

My wife and I entered the last level of Zack n Wikki back in January I think, tried it a couple times, and then quit.  Its even more trial and error than the Airship level IMO.  Glad you brought it up though, I completely forgot about the game.  Maybe we'll bite the bullet and try to solve it this weekend.

I love how many times you guys refer to editing stuff out, in the final post edited version. =P

I was referring to this:

...but I think the SNL version might be a loose parody of the cartoon.  I vaguely remember seeing that cartoon as a child, but I don't know where I would have seen it.

Way to bash a WiiWare game and a VC game that are actually good.

Good episode guys; worth the wait!

I thought the MegaMan tangent at the end was pretty funny.

Forgive me if I'm less than eager to accept your judgement on what is and isn't worth downloading.  ;-)

Well, if you can ignore the laughably bad characters and the voice work, the actual pool game is very good.  The graphics are clean (albeit nothing to write home about), it plays very well and gives you freedom on making your shots.  So it was worth $8 for me anyway.  It's a solid pool game, nothing more.

Part of the reason why I love this podcast and this crew, is PRECISELY because of all the tangents and the lack of editing of stuff that James says he's going to edit.  It plays less like a prepared and sterilized show and more like a casual conversation between gamers.  Great to listen to at work and on long drives (#103 has a permanent place on my mp3 player).

disappointed my mailbag question about pool games wasn't mentioned. :-(

maybe next week than.

and Greg he better not cry about Virtual Console in next weeks podcast, that guy got Mario RPG and I know he has been wanting that.

This week's DLC Mondays is so enthusiastic that we gave it a whole segment.  As for editing, James does occasionally edit out something if it really needs it.  If it's just bad flow or something, he'll usually leave it in despite our pleas.  :-)

Don't worry Greg will not do any crying in the next podcast.

Hah!  This is true.

Forgot to mention it was nice to hear about Panzer Dragoon Orta. I've been wanting to pick it up.

There's probably close to $509 worth of stuff worth downloading on the service, I just bought almost all of it. Even Lindemann's list of VC games that are worth it in one of the long argument threads was almost as long as the list of games I own.

And anyway, don't take my word for it, look at the reviews they've been getting.

Did someone have music playing in the background of the first half?

Music?  What time was that at?

Ah, argument threads...my calling card.

I think it's awesome that people appreciate our bumbling ineptitude.  ;-)
