Reggie mislabeled Wii Party as a bridge game, DKCR and Kirby are much more likely to act as bridge games. Previous bridge games were Mario Kart Wii and NSMB Wii and Nintendo is actually ramping those up, the Wii _______ titles are squarely in the expanded audience area and not bridge titles.

The Wii's success wasn't primarily due to branding but due to games. Wii Sports was a simple but effective way of showing what motion controls can do and is still a good game to introduce new people to gaming with because as long as they know the sport in question they know what to do. This is the part that I expect Natal and Move to fail at, delivering games of the caliber Nintendo has without simply copy-pasting what Nintendo did.

Games don't get you anywhere unless you can convince them to play them.  Nintendo succeeded first at convincing people to pick up the controller.  If they don't pick up the controller, they don't get to experience that simple but effective way of showing what motion controls can do.  That, I believe, is a branding success.

If it was JUST the game, then Kinect and Move would be successful because I know that they're capable of sufficiently mimicking Wii Sports.  Didn't they both demo a version of it at the show?  However, in 2006 Nintendo was able to brand Wii Sports as a new experience, something that neither MS nor Sony can accomplish now.  They're going to have to sell it some other way, and I don't think they have any idea how to do it successfully.

I think new-ness is a part of what the games are and MS/Sony won't be able to offer as much new stuff as Nintendo.

Either way...

I think it'd be useful if you checked e.g. Nintendo Life to get an overview over those downloadable games so you don't have to make stuff up when talking about them (Meerkats is more like an awful Pikmin clone than Lemmings, Spin 6 doesn't have you adding up to 6 but lining up 3 3s to turn them into 4s, 4 4s to turn them into 5s etc until you line up 6 6s to make them disappear).

AFAIK Lemmings is owned by Sony now so that's why you won't see it on DSiWare.

I'd have to relisten to be sure, but I'm pretty sure I was being sarcastic about Meerkats being similar to Lemmings.  But you're right, we should probably make a better effort to learn about these games.   At least, the half that aren't word games, sudoku, poker, or bejeweled.

I try to, at the very least, watch a youtube video on most of the games before recording, but there were a TON of games this week since we skipped the week of E3, and it was hard to get all of them watched.

But that's a fair criticism, IMO.  It's hard to call yourselves the newscast when you aren't accurately reporting the news.

About Spin Six, that was more the fault of me not retaining what the goal was. I read about it, watched videos, and I think glanced at the Nintendo Life review. Just when we got to it in recording, it slipped my mind what exactly you did.

Great show as always, guys! It's bad enough to have to wait 2 weeks between episodes, let alone 3, but you really delivered.
