The venerable publisher of Mortal Kombat and NFL Blitz may be up for sale.

Discuss it in Talkback!

According to an article in the L.A. Times, American publisher Midway Games may be up for sale to another corporation. The game publisher, which started in the arcade business and gradually phased into the console market, has experienced lackluster performance in 2002, despite some success of its Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance for multiple platforms.

Midway has made no official announcements regarding an acquisition or merger, but the article points to inside sources and several external factors that indicate a likely sale in the near future. Both Electronic Arts and Activision, the two largest North American game publishers, said they were not interested in acquiring Midway.

We'll let you know if anything develops regarding Midway's future. In the meantime, you can check out the full article at the link above (free registration required).
