The Sega Saturn rail shooter is getting remade with new graphics and controls on Switch.

A remake of Panzer Dragoon for Switch was announced during today's Nintendo Direct. The 1995 Sega Saturn rail shooter has the player riding on the back of a dragon, shooting at enemies in their way. The trailer shown during today's Direct promised new graphics and an overhauled control scheme. Panzer Dragoon will be available this winter.

I wish it was Saga, but I feel like Sega will never touch that game again. It lost the source code. How does that even...

The first two Panzer Dragoon games, Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon 2 Zwei, are being remade by Polish publisher Forever Entertainment, according to an official announcement from the company. The first of those products, titled Panzer Dragoon: Remake, is expected to arrive sometime in 2019.

Forever Entertainment’s announcement calls the games “refreshed version” of the Panzer Dragoon games. The company promises “completely new graphics compatible with today’s standards and several modifications of the game, making it more attractive to modern players, while remaining faithful to the original in terms of story.”

Beyond that, there are no further details about what to expect; Forever Entertainment didn’t announce platforms or a developer. When we reached out to Sega for additional info, a representative for Sega of America referred us to Forever Entertainment, saying it wasn’t involved in the project. That’s not as unusual as it might sound, as a number of Sega-owned properties in development are being created with seemingly little involvement from Sega itself — the Deep Silver-published Shenmue 3 and DotEmu-published Streets of Rage 4, for example.

Since the first one is coming to the Switch, the second one is all but confirmed.
