Shy Guy, Metal Mario, Lakitu Join Mario Kart 8

Joining the Koopalings and the regular crew come a few stalwarts.

Shy Guy, Metal Mario, and Lakitu are three new racers coming to Mario Kart 8, as revealed to us in a recent demo. That makes Mario Kart 8's roster up to 27 characters.

Shy Guy first appeared in Mario Kart DS as a playable racer by DS Download Play users only and later appeared in Mario Kart 7 as an unlockable racer. The creatures also showed up as hazards in a variety of races, including Mario Kart Wii's DK Summit and Mario Kart: Double Dash!!'s Sherbet Land.

Metal Mario has only appeared in Mario Kart 7 as an unlockable racer.

Lakitu has traditionally given the countdown before each race (and still does). Mario Kart 8 is the second time he has been a racer following Mario Kart 7.

With three more characters from Mario Kart 7 joining the roster, that leaves Wiggler, Honey Queen, and Mii as the only racers not confirmed for Mario Kart 8. There's no word regarding what the final roster count will be.

It probably not a coincidence that there are three characters from previous entries that are unconfirmed for this one, and that adding those three would bring to total up to exactly 30.

While it didn't affect me because I always race as Donkey Kong, in Mario Kart 7 I thought Wiggler, Honey Queen, and Metal Mario were stupid additions to the game, especially when they took the place of some characters who were already in the game and were generally liked by most. If they were added them with out dropping those characters then it would've been fine. Hopefully in Mario Kart 8 they have the liked ones back like Waluigi, (he's my brother's favorite and was pissed when he found out he was gone and I didn't blame him. If Donkey Kong was taken out I wouldn't buy the game). However, since DK is in it I am EXTREMELY looking to this one.

Serious response. Aren't all those characters practically free anyway? ShyGuy probably shows up on a track, Lakitu is the Commentator, and Metal Mario is a Mario texture albight and expensive one.

There are a lot more than three characters from previous games which are not announced for MK8.

There are a lot more than three characters from previous games which are not announced for MK8.

Mainly Funky Kong and Dry Bowser are the two big ones along with a mii outfit and some guys from double dash, wait is dry bones confirmed I have no idea,

But Mario Kart 7 just did way to much damage to my opinion of the series for me to get excited for this one.
