For the holiday season, the retail price of the Wii bundle could be as low as £80.

The upcoming Europe-only bundle may be available for as low £79.99 ($130).

Nintendo's has stated that the trade price will be similar to previous Wii bundles, such as the Mario Kart bundle released in May, which currently sells for around £109.99 ($180) on Amazon UK. However, final pricing is up to the individual retailers. Leading UK outlets have stated that they expect the new bundle to sell below £80 during the Q4 holiday period, although that pricing may be temporary.

The new Wii is designed to sit horizontally and foregoes backwards compatibility with GameCube accessories and titles. It will be bundled with Wii Sports, Wii Party, one Wii Remote Plus, and one Nunchuk when it is released later this year.

Small quibble, bu it really does look ugly sitting horizontally. The PS3 and 360 seem to look fine either way, but I don't think the Wii does.

The PS3 can lay vertically? The Slim doesn't seem built for it...

I wouldn't sit my PS3 vertically if someone paid my a Stipend to do so.  I have one of the Originals.  The thing is huge and I have a cooling accessory attached to it. (Which is sometime funny to hear it go off when the PS3 isn't on because the room temp is high enough to trigger it.)

I lay my Wii horizontally. It sits inside my tv stand so my cats don't chew through another sensor bar cord.

I read (but haven't confirmed) that the new model is the same size and shape as the original. If so, I see no reason why anyone could prop the console vertically unless the logo really bothers them.

Whats the point if its the same size and shape?  I figure they shrink it somehow.  Especially without the GC ports dictating some sizing.

I know Nintendo's in the business of making money, but this seems like it will only hurt Wii U sales.  If I bought little Johnny a Wii for Christmas, I wouldn't turn around and replace it a few months later.  I guess Nin figures anyone buying it this late and for this cheap probably isn't in the market for the next big thing anyway.

Nintendo referred to it as a value bundle in the press release, so I figured that it would be cheaper than the current price. I also think there are more bundles incoming, which may include even more goodies and be priced higher than this one.

The point is to save money on manufacturing. The GameCube components are on the side of the system, and it still needs to be as wide at it is in order for the disc drive to fit inside of the case. In order to reduce the size, they would have to rearrange everything inside so that they could shave a half inch off of the back. There isn't much point in making it that tiny bit smaller when it is already smaller than most electronics.

!!!

I know we're just talking personal preferences but I have to disagree.

I only used that gray stand for about a year and then I put it back in the box forever.  I just think it looks soooo much better laid flat!

I kinda wish I could rotate the Wii logo like I can the PlayStation logo on my PS2 =)
