It is a Smash Bros.-like mode featuring Star Wars characters.

The Wii version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, developed by Red Fly Studios, will feature an exclusive multiplayer mode that plays a lot like Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. series. Up to four players can choose from eight Star Wars characters, including some hailing from The Clone Wars.

Like in Nintendo's series, the objective is to be the last one standing. Stages will change throughout the course of the battle as well as obstacles will appear. The game only features local play.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 will be released in North America on October 26.

This is a pretty cool exclusive. I had heard the Wii version of the first game did pretty good in sales, maybe this is in response to that.

A multi-platform game with a different developer for the Wii version, you say? That sets the alarm bells ringing, although sometimes it pays off, and exclusive content is right way to go. I'm glad they are taking a new approach to the multiplayer mode, because I played the two-player fighting in The Force Unleashed very briefly and there's not much to commend about it.

In other news, The Force Unleashed 2 is going to be offered free via download to PS3 and 360 owners who buy some other Star Wars game...

it looks like fun.
Any word if this game has motion plus support for light saber battles?

Even if it is an underpowered port, critics might score it better than the other versions, as was the case with IGN and the first game.
