Wii Sports Resort and Wii MotionPlus are now bundled with every Wii, in the color of your choice.

Today Nintendo Announced that the Black Wii will be launching on May 9, complete with Wii Sports Resort and Wii MotionPlus. The same bundle will be available with the classic white Wii system as well. Both colors will cost $199.99.

Black Wii Bundle Box

This black Wii bundle has been available in Europe and Japan previously, but this is the first time any new color scheme for the Wii console has been made available in North America.

Some retailers such as WalMart have been offering special deals to include Wii Sports Resort at the $199.99 price over the past month, but starting May 9, Nintendo will make it easier on them with this new bundle.

NINTENDO TO INCLUDE WII SPORTS RESORT, WII MOTIONPLUS WITH ALL NEW WII SYSTEMS

Starting May 9, Wii Hardware Will Be Available in Black or White

REDMOND, Wash., May 3, 2010 - A great value in video games is about to get even better. Starting May 9, Nintendo will add new elements to the baseline Wii™ system package offered at retailers throughout the Americas. In addition to the intuitive, motion-sensing Wii Remote™ controller, Nunchuk™ controller and popular Wii Sports™ game that currently comes standard with each system purchase, every new unit will now also come packaged with Wii Sports Resort™ and the control-enhancing Wii MotionPlus™ accessory. In addition, consumers will be able to choose between two color schemes for the Wii console and included controllers: original white, or a new black option. The U.S. suggested retail price of the new system package will remain at $199.99. Pricing outside the United States will be established by the local markets, but offer similar consumer value.

"Nintendo leads the way in delivering rich motion-control gaming experiences at an accessible price point," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "By including even more of our top-quality hardware and software in the basic Wii system package, we're extending that commitment to entertainment and value. Now more than ever, consumers can count on Nintendo to deliver inclusive fun and advanced motion controls at a mass-market price."

Wii Sports Resort expands on the active-play fun of the original Wii Sports, with resort-themed activities such as wakeboarding, archery and swordplay. What's more, Wii Sports Resortfeatures the rich control enhancements of Wii MotionPlus, which allows users to dive in and enjoy precision motion-control excitement right out of the box.

Wii MotionPlus has set the standard in precision motion control by delivering an immersive, social experience unavailable on any other system. As of May 9, when both the Wii Sports Resort game and a Wii MotionPlus accessory will come standard with every new Wii console, people who purchase the system can experience this leading-edge video game technology from the moment they plug in and power up.

Previously unavailable throughout the Americas, the black version of the Wii console will offer all the groundbreaking features and functions of its white counterpart in a stylish new color scheme. Whether they aim to color-coordinate with other devices or simply love the way it looks, consumers throughout the Americas can add a black Wii console with matching black Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to their home entertainment lineup. Additional black controllers and accessories can be purchased separately.

The Wii system launched in November 2006 and continues to attract millions of new and experienced gamers with its intuitive motion-sensing controls and inclusive game offerings.

Remember that Wii features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about Wii, visit Wii.com.

With an increase in value over a price drop means that the Wii is probably only costing Nintendo <=$100 to make.

I wish they would throw the CCPro in the bundle or atleast a second (same color) wiichuck+ too

Surprised they don't bundle Wii Sports as well with it.

TheFleeceMay 03, 2010

This also feels really useless because just about everyone's got one already and the rate at which Wii hardware dies means they've still got the first one they bought. How many of these will really sell?

Enough to get more Motion Plus out in time for ZERUDA.

Bah! We all know the motion plus bundle exists as well of the fact that anyone can go and buy 10 MPs right now. In different colors! The color system that's been applied to portables marks identification for the owner and the fact that the system begins to wear down after a year or so. You can always opt for a different color, but a console system? Face Palm all the way to the bank.

Wut? it comes with Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Black Wiichuck+ w/ black condom and a Black Wii.

TJ SpykeMay 03, 2010

GP, it does ("In addition to the intuitive, motion-sensing Wii Remote controller, Nunchuk controller and popular Wii Sports game that currently comes standard with each system purchase,"). The new bundle includes everything the current Wii package does, but it now also includes Wii Sports Resort and a Wii MotionPlus (and is available in black).

Ian SaneMay 03, 2010

Yeah, they pretty much had to include Wii Sports as well or release a seperate retail version of the game for new adopters or Wii Sports just plain goes out of print.  Considering that that's really the Wii's killer app it has to remain available to new owners.  Might as well include it, that's part of the whole hook of it anyway.

I do wonder who exactly does not own a Wii and that THIS will push them over the edge.  It doesn't seem like a console where there are a bunch of fence-sitters that need to be won over with a good deal.  If there are fence-sitters they're probably core gamers waiting for some key game(s) to come along.  The casuals probably all bought the Wii during the initial frenzy when it was an "it" item.

If this doesn't create some big flurry of hardware sales I sure as hell hope Nintendo doesn't freak out.  You can only sell so many consoles.  The money is in the games because you can always make new ones.  A Wii is one-time purchase, even more so than a portable where people will lose it, break it, or update it as a fashion accessory.

BlackNMild2k1May 03, 2010

I wish they had made a special version of the WiiSports/Resort bundled 2n1 disc with exclusive M+ Tennis, baseball and boxing.

That alone would get lots of diehards and collectors to double dip for the game alone.

Remember.......Nintendo has done this since the N64 with it's console/controller colors, not as many with the GameCube and obviously even less now but it's different now. With the Wii's popularity Nintendo is GOING to "iPod" the game.

This will generate more sales but it will also flood the used game market with used Wiis, you don't have to have two of them you just dump your old one.....

Now don't jump down my neck yet GP, the Hardcore won't dump your old one so quickly because of VC/WW but 12 year old Tim aint worried bout that but understands how GameStop works, and you know they will have a +10% incentive if you bring n your old Wii.

As far as my household, I live on a remoteish island of Japan... No resale shops but the Family Wii can now go in my son's room so my children can play their shovel ware else where and i can now concentrate on Galaxy 2/Other M/King Story.........fin

Yeah but with the N64 and Gamecube it was like "please buy our console!"  There was very clearly a huge chunk of the market that did not own one so there's a very concentrated effort to grab an impulse buy.  This gen when the PS3 had a price cut and a new model is was a "please buy our console!"

Somehow for me the casual focus of the Wii makes it such that it seems like no one really is left to buy the thing.  It was such a frenzy.  Nintendo didn't have to try to offer any sort of deal to get people to buy it, they were sold out for over a YEAR.  I just assumed that if you wanted a Wii, you got one.  It wasn't the price or the colour or anything like that holding you back.  It was merely the demand exceeding the supply that meant you didn't have one.  I guess it's not that rational of a thought, it just FEELS that way.  The Wii has just sold so well and with the mainstream you don't expect them to wait around and be smart shoppers.

The Wii also has a reputation of being the default second console.  A second console is usually what a late hardware sale is going for.  You think "hey that console I don't have has some cool games I've been curious about and at this price I might as well go for it!"  In my personal experience I either encounter people who own Wiis or they don't want one at all.

I don't think that is the point of it. I think they want to make sure as many people own a Wii MotionPlus and to make it common, so they are bundling it. Then they want new Wii owners to have something to try MotionPkus on, and Wii Sports Resort is perfect for it.

I'm with StogiUnagi as I technically don't own a Wii and have never bought one.
This is exactly what I've been waiting for. For $200 I get the Wii in the color I wanted in originally with 2 games. Add in MH3 with Black CCPro and I get 3 games and all necessary controllers/attachments for about the price of an original Wii (that was a Xmas gift).

Kytim89May 03, 2010

I want a black wii, but unless Nintendo allows me to transfer my VC titles to the new system, I will just keep what I have already. Although if I were to buy the black wii I would just put NES stickers on it to replace my white wii. I also need to save my money because my car is leaking(more like meorrhaging) oil and needs repair. So I will have to set this one out, atleast for now.

Why does Nintendo of America be so cheap? They get Wii Sports in a regular case, they also get Link's Crossbow Training in a regular case.

So they have a giant pile of discarded Wii sports and Crossbow Training boxes behind their building?

NinGurl69 *hugglesMay 05, 2010

I like DVD cases for storing and presenting on a shelf.  Protection value is almost worthless cuz there's nothing to protect the DVD case itself.

For practical transportation and organization purposes, I've been using slim Allsop double-disc clamshell cases.  Perfect ever since Nintendo GAMECUBE games came in 2 discs.

There is no way for the Nintendo channel game play records to be transfered to the black wii if I were to buy one? I refuse to restart Mario RPG after playing it for twenty hours along with all my other games ranging up to 6-18 hours each.

I am also worried about the glossy finish which would show too many finger prints and smudges. I wish Nintendo had released this thing in a matte finish like they did with the DSi.

If Nintendo is not interested in allowing us to transfer our VC titles to the new wii, I would be open to shipping my white wii to them and allow them to transplant my wii's internal components into a black shell. However, something like this would cut into their profits and I do not see them implementing it any time soon. It would be good for some one like me though.

Why worry about the time log on the Nintendo Channel? It's not like you have to start over, just copy your save over and pick up where you left off. Why would Nintendo Channel Time Log matter?

I never understood this complaint. How many people tape their wiimote to their wii so that they can get fingerprints all over their Wii? I set my Wii near teh TV and don't have to touch it again unless I'm changing disc.... and even then there wouldn't be any finger prints. How are you handling your Wii?

Transferring of VC and Online Game Saves are the only legitimate (vs superficial or stupid) complaints on upgrading in my opinion. Nintendo really better get that sorted out before they release the 3DS because that is where the first big problem is gonna arise(DSiWare --> to 3DSWare).

BnM, do you not remember me posting pictures of my wii with stickers that made it look like an NES? If I were to buy a black wii, I would just put the same stickers onto it as I did with my white wii. I just prefer a matte finish over a glossy one. It seems to me that glossy surfaces contract alot of dust and lint and other stuff faster than a matte surface.

As for nintendo allowing you to transfer your downloaded titles over to a new sysyem, I do not see them doing any thing bout it, honestly. I mean they will claim that the games are so cheap that you can just buy them again, but they are not that cheap. I think Nintendo is too paranoid to allow some thing like this to happen it is really going to hurt them when the 3DS come out. I am not interested in pirating their software as long as they give me what I want, which is the ability to transfer downloaded games to other consoles.
