The classic SNES title highlights the releases celebrating Gamescom week.

In celebration of this week's Gamescom event, Nintendo of Europe has updated their European Virtual Console service with the addition of the Super Nintendo title Pilotwings.

In addition to Pilotwings for the Virtual Console, the DSiWare service received two new titles: Mario vs. DK: Minis March Again! and Nnooo's Pop+ Solo. WiiWare also received two new games, Square-Enix's ARKANOID Plus! and Gaijin Game's BIT. TRIP CORE.

Pilotwings is a flight simulator game released in 1990 that includes stages featuring hang gliders, sky diving activities, and a rocket belt. It is known for its use of Mode 7 graphics to create intricate sprite effects.

Confirmation of the title's release on the American Virtual Console service has yet to be announced.

CELEBRATE GAMESCOM WEEK WITH MARIO AND MORE!

20 August 2009 – Keen gamers will have already tried out Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! and Pilotwings at gamescom this week. Now the rest of you can join in as both games arrive in style, for Nintendo DSiWare and Virtual Console respectively.

As if that wasn’t enough, the addictive puzzle shooter game Pop+ Solo comes to Nintendo DSiWare, coupled with two dazzling WiiWare games - an updated version of the original arcade blockbuster, ARKANOID Plus!, and BIT.TRIP CORE, the 80s inspired arcade-style rhythm game.

NINTENDO DSiWARE - Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! (Nintendo, 800 Nintendo DSi Points)

The re-opening of Mario’s theme park, Super Mini Mario World, was going so well... until Donkey Kong burst in and kidnapped the helpless Pauline once again. So it’s up to you and the Mini Marios – tiny mechanical Mario toys – to rescue Pauline from that crazed ape’s clutches.

Instead of controlling the Mini Marios directly, you use the stylus to manipulate objects in each trap-laden level, and lead the fragile toys safely to the exit. Once you clear all eight levels on a floor, you’ll get a chance to pummel Donkey Kong with your Mini Mario-launching cannon.

The game also features the Construction Zone, which allows you to create your own original levels, play levels that you or others have made, and share or download levels via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection or local wireless.

NINTENDO DSiWARE - Pop+ Solo (Nnooo, 500 Nintendo DSi Points)

Pop bubbles, build chains and try to keep the timer alive in this addictive puzzle/shooter.

Pop your way through 16 waves of bubbles in Adventure, Normal or Advanced modes. Test yourself against the clock in a one, two or five minute run and take on the new Bonus Round mode where each bonus round can be played in three, five or ten rounds of increasing difficulty. Or just chill out in the relaxing Chill mode with no score or time pressures to worry about.

Pop+ Solo comes to the Nintendo DSi with eight modes and five bonus rounds plus plenty of new badges to collect. Adventure mode introduces some new elements to the game with mines, golden fish and jets of water as well as four boss battles. The new Challenge mode lets you create and customise your own challenges to play again and again.

VIRTUAL CONSOLE – Pilotwings (Nintendo, 800 Wii Points)

Welcome to Pilotwings Flight Club, where your career can really soar! Produced by the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto, this Super Nintendo classic wowed audiences by putting a fun new spin on flight simulation.

Pilot a range of flying machines as you earn your wings and advance through the ranks. Jump into a biplane and soar through the floating rings, before bringing it in for a pinpoint landing. Perform a precision skydive on to a distant ground target. Soar silently from a hang glider and catch the thermals. You can even test the experimental Rocketbelt.

If you’re very skilled, you can unlock bonus stages for extra challenges; the best graduates may be called on to pilot a helicopter in a daring rescue mission. With Pilotwings, the sky’s the limit!

WiiWARE – ARKANOID Plus! (SQUARE ENIX, 800 Wii Points)

ARKANOID Plus! is an updated version of the original arcade blockbuster. Players must destroy coloured blocks by guiding an Energy Ball around the screen using a spaceship called a VAUS.

The game features a host of new modes and settings which radically alter the gameplay experience: "Arcade Mode" consists of 61 Rounds divided into left and right versions with two types of boss character appearing in the last Round; "VS Mode" lets players face off against a friend or the CPU; and the unfailingly frantic "Time Mode" challenges players to clear Rounds within a strict time limit.

Factor in the subtle differences arising from the choice of “Lives” or “Barrier” rules, along with a plethora of exciting items, and it’s clear you’re in for hours and hours of blockbusting fun.

WiiWARE – BIT.TRIP CORE (Gaijin Games, 600 Wii Points)

BIT.TRIP CORE continues the BIT.TRIP saga in this retro-arcade-style game.

BIT.TRIP CORE adds up to an exciting action/rhythm game that’s best played while zoning out on the tunes and letting the visuals swallow you whole. The experience is inspired by games from the 80s, only with a modern twist. The gameplay is entirely new to the series, leaving the single-axis controls of BIT.TRIP BEAT behind in favour of the ability to control two axes.

If the difficulty gets you down, grab a friend and play cooperatively with 2-player multiplayer. Make it to the end and you’ll have journeyed one step further to completing your BIT.TRIP.

My DSi now has three more games on it (the third is Suujin Taisen if you're wondering, was waiting for another 500 point title before inputting the card).
