Though the system is selling well, game sales remain low.

The Wii is a definite success in South Korea thanks to its appeal and ease of use. Despite some initial doubt, since the Wii debuted in South Korea last year it has sold over 500,000 units. Wii Sports has yet again proven to be the biggest game for Wii fans with sales of the sports title at 210,000 units. Mario Kart Wii, Mario Party 8, and Super Paper Mario are also favorites.

Regardless of these one off successes, software sales overall have yet to take off. The culprit: rampant software piracy, says Mineo Kodea, head of Nintendo Korea. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of South Korea reported that the software piracy rate stands at 23.4 percent.
