Compete for a chance to win a Nintendo DS and a copy of Metroid Prime Pinball. UPDATE: The contest has now ended

Metroid Prime Pinball saw Samus trying out something that isn't exactly on the to-do list of an interstellar bounty hunter. Even so, the game yielded terrific results, as you can tell from our review. Now it's your turn!

Our latest and greatest contest asks that you send in artwork of Samus performing acts completely out of sync with her usual persona - driving to work, paying taxes, anything! The contest officially starts now and will run until November 18th, 2005. The best three entries will be chosen by our staff and displayed on PGC. Also, thanks to Nintendo of America, the three winners will each win a Nintendo DS system and a copy of Metroid Prime Pinball. Just make sure you abide by the following rules:

  • No nudity or offensive images.

  • Must be your own, original artwork.

  • Limited to one entry per person.

  • Must not exceed 600 pixels in width.

A big thanks again to Nintendo of America for donating these fabulous prizes. Now get drawing and send in those entries!.

Note: Winners will be decided by members of the Planet GameCube staff, whose decisions are final. Employees of Nintendo of America and members of the Planet GameCube staff are not eligible to win. Entrants who violate the above rules may be disqualified. Open to readers worldwide.

So I guess driving to work and paying taxes are going to be to obvious to use now....I am actually going to enter this one. Not just create an entry and neglect to enter it...

    TMWNovember 10, 2005

So...what about those of us who cannot draw worth a lick?

Would a particularly image-laden piece of prose be allowed?

    Karl Castaneda #2November 10, 2005

The writers got a chance with the Dream Game Revolution Contest. Now it's time for the artists to get a shot. It's only fair.

    KnowsNothingNovember 10, 2005

I'm no artist, but I think if I were to come up with something I could get the message across. It's all about the content; the best idea's gonna win. As long as it promotes some sense of competency I would assume it'll be fine.

Well, that's MY interpretation of it >_>

    TMWNovember 10, 2005

Ah...yes...I suppose you and your FILTHY logic are correct.

I will just submit a painstakingly creative stick figure creation. Just you wait!

    JonLeungNovember 10, 2005

What's so magical about November 18th? The GameCube launched that day, and Metroid Prime also came out that same day a year later. And now this?

Anyway, it sounds neat, but the thing about Samus is that she's so darn hard to draw, what with all the ridges in her armor and all, even if you were trying to keep it simple. Well, they're likely to only pick the best artwork anyway, so maybe it's not really an issue...

    That's the spirit!

    mantidorNovember 10, 2005

this is another awesome "the whole world can participate" type of contest, yet I suck at drawing except for creatures Ive created myself, and as JonLeung said, Samus is quite a challenge, Ill think about an idea though, and maybe Ill submit something.

We try really hard to make sure that all of PGC's contests are open to our readers worldwide. In this case, NOA offered to ship the prizes directly, but they can only ship to the U.S. and Canada. So I asked them to send the prizes to me, and then I'll ship them anywhere in the world they may need to go.

    DarkheartNovember 10, 2005

Does it count if I make a 4 panel comic, or does it just have to be one huge shot?

    Karl Castaneda #2November 10, 2005

Comics are art. face-icon-small-wink.gif As long as it doesn't violate the dimensions rule, you're golden.

    DasmosNovember 10, 2005

What do we add to the e-mail? Just the picture or details also?

    Karl Castaneda #2November 10, 2005

All that really matters is the picture. If you've got a title, I guess that's fine to add as well.

    DarkheartNovember 10, 2005

600 pixels wide but how high? or did you mean no bigger than 600x600?

    Karl Castaneda #2November 10, 2005

Height is not an issue. The width rule was only made as to not extend the page.

    DasmosNovember 10, 2005

    Picture SENT!

I probably could have spent some more time on it seeing as there is still a whole week til it's over, but I couldn't be bothered. To all who see, in the picture the person who is not Samus is me. tehe.

    Infernal MonkeyNovember 11, 2005

Time to fire up MS Paint! With.. fire! j5bmutantbaby.gif

    NephilimNovember 11, 2005

mines sent too, I also wish I spent more time on it but oh well

    Hostile CreationNovember 11, 2005

I have a brilliantly stupid idea.
Not sure quite how to execute it, though. Because it could, potentially, contain partial nudity, and I really can't think of it getting the point across any other way.

    KDR_11kNovember 12, 2005

Just give her a bikini and write "supports Justin Bailey Mk. 2 code!" at the bottom face-icon-small-tongue.gif.

    Karl Castaneda #2November 12, 2005

More entries, please. I have FOUR so far. Seriously, guys, how would you feel if you were that one guy who, out of all of the people who entered, didn't get a free DS. Pretty crappy, right? Ok, then, so make sure that one guy isn't alone in his suffering and send in more pictures.

    DarkheartNovember 12, 2005

Give me time, I am writing a comic here lol! Plus I am out of my own world right now, I may be an art major in college, but I work with traditional mediums so workin on the pc aint that familiar. Plus I am totally freehanding this stuff with a mouse as well! I suppose I could give you a taste of what I am doing................

Nah I am not comfortable with its current state but it will be in by the date!

    Hostile CreationNovember 12, 2005

Deguello thinks my idea is a little too risque.
I'm going for it anyway. Unless I can think of a better idea that's less risky.
    Wish me luck.

    RABicleNovember 12, 2005

    Gotta aim high Hostile.

My money is on the guy who drew my avatar to win a copy.

    T. SoutherlandNovember 13, 2005

I'll definitely be entering. I needs me a DS.

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorNovember 13, 2005

Question... If I cut & paste parts of work that isn't mine (Say, Samus' head from official art and such) does that disqualify me?

EDIT:All well, I entered anyway. I doubt I'd win with it, but it was worth a laugh.

    Karl Castaneda #2November 13, 2005

    UncleBob, that entry was priceless.

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorNovember 13, 2005

Thanks... I couldn't come up with anything better. face-icon-small-wink.gif

    KnowsNothingNovember 13, 2005

You know, if I were artistic and creative, I would enter this contest!

EDIT: Holy crap, I actually have an idea. Now I just need to find some talent, and fast!

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorNovember 13, 2005

'eh... I have no talent and I entered... face-icon-small-wink.gif Go for it!

    MattVDBNovember 13, 2005

Yay, I'm in. I can't wait to see the winners. There are so many possibilities. Good luck everyone.

    ShyGuyNovember 13, 2005

Entry Sent, when will the winners be announced?

    Infernal MonkeyNovember 14, 2005

Finally finished my entry. Sent! =D

    ArbokNovember 14, 2005

If someone doesn't make a "Metroid: Xtreme Beach Volleyball" idea I will be very sad...

    vuduNovember 14, 2005

If the winners (and losers) aren't all posted in their entirety, I will be very sad...

    Karl Castaneda #2November 14, 2005

It'll go the same way as the last time - we'll post the winners and if everyone else wants to share theirs, then they can feel free to. As for when the winners will be announced, it shouldn't take longer than a week. After all, I'm just looking at a bunch of pictures, not reading multiple-page game concepts.

    KDR_11kNovember 15, 2005

Arbok: Same thought here. That or Metroid Guitar Hero with Samus being puzzled how to play a guitar without fingers on your right hand face-icon-small-tongue.gif. Or Metroid Bowling (lack of fingers always reminds me of Purple Tentacle's bowling ball...).

    joshnickersonNovember 15, 2005

Dammit, I forgot all about this! Gotta get crackin...

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorNovember 15, 2005

Don't worry guys, when I lose, I'll post my entry... face-icon-small-wink.gif

    ThePermNovember 15, 2005

you know who is goign to win right? its going to be someone not remotely connected to the community. Gabe and Tycho should enter lol

    Magus19November 15, 2005

So do you think you have a winner for now? I'll probably post mine right before the end of the contest.

    ThePermNovember 15, 2005

no i was saying it with poor punctuation, no from experience. I remember thre pgc fifth ani contest and some super awesome flash video with 3d graphics was on it.i was like wtf...but i didnt have tiem to make a better one.

    T. SoutherlandNovember 17, 2005

Finally got my entry in despite an uncooperative computer. We have to wait until the winners are announced to share our entries, correct?

    MarioNovember 17, 2005

Sent my entry! Just in time. Looking forward to seeing the winners.

    compachoNovember 17, 2005

Can someone confirm if my pic was recieved? Email is morrob@gmail.com. thanx

    Karl Castaneda #2November 17, 2005

It's right here in my mailbox, safe and sound.

    DarkheartNovember 17, 2005

Workin super hard on finishing the last couple panels of the comic, I know I am stressing way too much about a simple 6 panel comic but oh well I just want it to look decent.

By the way is the entry due by midnight tonight or tom, because it says friday will be the last day. Just not sure if that means Thursday by midnight or Friday midnight!

    Hostile CreationNovember 17, 2005

I totally got lazy and didn't do this. I have her head, though.
I may finish it to post with the others, though, just for fun. Can't wait to see them face-icon-small-smile.gif

    Karl Castaneda #2November 17, 2005

You can turn it in all-day tomorrow as well.

    odifiendNovember 17, 2005

Submitted mine, not exactly the effect I had in mind when I started, but I committed dammit! face-icon-small-tongue.gif

    Hostile CreationNovember 17, 2005

    Oh really?
Hmm. . . important college paper, or Metroid contest?

    I think this is a no-brainer face-icon-small-tongue.gif

I assume you got quite a bit more entries by now, correct?

    Karl Castaneda #2November 18, 2005

    More than enough. face-icon-small-smile.gif

    ScorpedoNovember 18, 2005

    entry sent face-icon-small-smile.gif

    DarkheartNovember 18, 2005

My email has been ultra screwy lately if you just post that you got it, that would be majorly awesome thanks.

WOOT finished it, I am not so proud of it, but I am proud of the fact that I actually finished it!

    Karl Castaneda #2November 18, 2005

    Your email address?

    DarkheartNovember 18, 2005

    seancassera@Yahoo.com

    Karl Castaneda #2November 18, 2005

Yep, I've got it right here.

    T. SoutherlandNovember 18, 2005

I'm looking forward to the winners so I can show off my submission regardless of the outcome. I think it's funny anyway...

    DarkheartNovember 18, 2005

Thank You! Oh and I thought we could show our entries now @_@; glad I didn't. I dont remember them saying we had to wait until winners were announced but now I am going to reread the threaed!

    compachoNovember 18, 2005

So is it ok now to post our pics if we want?

    StrellNovember 18, 2005

I submitted a pic. I have no idea how it stacks up to the competition but I thought it turned out nicely, considering that it was my first time to really use my graphics tablet and a paint program (I'm a pencil and paper kind of guy).

Good luck everyone, I will post mine if we are allowed in this thread once the official deadline is passed.

    -Strelly

P.S. If the admins of the contest could let me know if mine was received, I'd appreciate it. E-mail would have been zeiganstrell@gmail.com

    Happy MasksNovember 18, 2005

I've gotta thank you for this contest! I have been wanting to draw Samus for awhile, but I haven't felt enough desire to actually do so. Thankfully the chance at winning a DS was enough to entice me to take a stab at it. I only had a night in which to do my entry, and it isn't as awesome as I would have wanted, but it certainly was fun to work on.

I wish all those who entered good luck. I look forward to seeing everyone's entries face-icon-small-smile.gif

    Karl Castaneda #2November 19, 2005

Strell, I've got yours here. And the winners will be announced soon. Until then, please don't post your art. After all, if you win, don't you want it to premiere on PGC?

EDIT: The winners have been contacted. Once I've recieved their contact info, the news post will go up and you'll be able to see the winning entries.

    T. SoutherlandNovember 19, 2005

Well I know at least one entry that didn't win. Oh well, nothing new, I have terrible luck with contests. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing the winners and showing my own.

    LoknoNovember 19, 2005

Cool contest, I enjoyed creating my entry, even though it's pretty clear at this point that I didn't win.

    Happy MasksNovember 19, 2005

Not that it really matters now, but could you tell me if you recieved my entry?
    lyn.melanie@gmail.com
I seem to be having some issues with my email as of late and I am curious.

Also, is it okay if I put my entry up on my Deviantart page, or should I wait until the news post?

    Infernal MonkeyNovember 19, 2005

A winrar is not me. Can't wait to see the winning pics. =o

    KnowsNothingNovember 19, 2005

If Infernal's entry didn't win either the judges are imbeciles or the three winners are really that good. I won't say which I think is the case...

    Karl Castaneda #2November 19, 2005

Infernal's entry was definitely impressive, but the quality of the winning entries is quite shocking. I'll always remember Ferny's entry, though.

    "How are you today, sir?"
    "Hungry. Hungry and bored."

    GonmonNovember 19, 2005

Hum. No win for me apparently.

Makes me wonder what the winning entries would be like...

(wtf T. Southerland didn't win either?)

    T. SoutherlandNovember 19, 2005

Jeez, I was up against Gonmon of all people and even he didn't win. We've shamed Starmen.net!

    Hans BeckertNovember 19, 2005

Shucks, didn't win. People just don't appreciate terrible MS Paint art and references to other games they probably haven't played like they used to... face-icon-small-sad.gif

    Hybrid HunterNovember 19, 2005

Looks like i didn't win either...
If only i didn't have exams, then i'd be able to work on it more.

    DarkheartNovember 19, 2005

    Wait . . . the winners were announced? @_@'

    MattVDBNovember 19, 2005

So, can I get a go ahead then? If the winners have been informed, and I wasn't informed, then I can post my entry, correct?

    Karl Castaneda #2November 20, 2005

The winners will be posted in just a moment. Afterwards, go hog wild and show all of your entries.
