SEGA INTRODUCES VINTAGE GEM TO NINTENDO GAMECUBE

Value-Priced Sonic Gems Collection Features Critically-Acclaimed Sonic CD

SAN FRANCISCO (August 16, 2005) -- SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced the release of Sonic Gems Collection™ exclusively for Nintendo GameCube™. The exciting compilation features the critically-acclaimed Sonic CD®; the cult arcade hit Sonic The Fighters®; and Sonic R®, formerly exclusive to SEGA Saturn™.

Long-time fans, collectors, treasure hunters, and newcomers can now play Sonic games which were once only available in the arcade and on SEGA hardware platforms. In Sonic CD, which debuted on the SEGA Saturn, gamers are introduced to Sonic's love-interest, Amy, and his arch nemesis, Metal Sonic, in a legendary time-traveling adventure. Sonic The Fighters makes its first home-console appearance ever on this compilation, and brings together a fan-favorite cast of characters including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Bean, Espio, Bark, and Dr. Eggman in this 3D arcade fighting game. And finally, gamers can race against each other in Sonic R, in which Sonic and his pals speed through crazy corkscrews and across treacherous platforms on foot!

"While games continue to evolve, Sonic The Hedgehog classics remain as fun to play today as they were over a decade ago," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Entertainment Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "SEGA is proud to bring such a strong and recognizable character to Nintendo fans of all ages."

In addition to Sonic CD, Sonic The Fighters, and Sonic R, Sonic Gems Collection includes six unlockable Game Gear games including Sonic Spinball®, Sonic The Hedgehog 2®, Sonic The Hedgehog Triple Trouble®, Sonic Drift®2, Tails' Skypatrol®, and Tails Adventures®.

Since his birth 14 years ago, Sonic The Hedgehog has spanned several generations of video game systems, appearing in over 30 games that have sold more than 38 million units of software. Consistently a top-selling franchise, Sonic The Hedgehog continues to be a popular icon worldwide in 2005 and one of the most recognized and celebrated video game characters of all time.

Sonic Gems Collection is rated "E" for Everyone and is available at retailers nationwide for an MSRP of $29.95.
