NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits

Control a winged girl and godly powers in this WiiWare game.

Icarian: Kindred Spirits, developed by Over the Top Games, takes place in a mythological Greek setting where you control Nyx, winged girl, who is trying to find Icarus.

It uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to control as you journey through a side-scrolling world. I played through the bulk of the first level, which is basically a tutorial for the basic gameplay. The A button jumps and every time you jump, you can press A to flutter a little higher. You have five of these boosts every time you are in the air, which are represented by wing feathers up in the top left of the screen. You can also glide after you jump by pressing the Z button. This is helpful for slowly getting across larger gaps.

About halfway through the level, you gain the The Power of Zeus, which is ability to move objects on the screen. This is done by selecting them with the pointer, pressing the B button, and then dragging the object around. This can be used to find new passages, crush enemies, block destructive sand flow, or place an object on the hot lava-like sand so you can cross. This power was most interesting when you had to control Nyx with the analog stick and move a block with the Wii Remote pointer at the same time.

While I didn't get to see any besides The Power of Zeus, you gain more God-inspired power-ups as you go through the game. These are your only form of attack as Nyx can't do anything besides fly. There is also a cooperative mode in the game where one player controls Nyx and the other controls the powers of the Gods.

Graphically, Kindred Spirits looks pretty impressive, but the environment is very drab. Hopefully, the game will feature more vibrant worlds as players take Nyx on her quest to find her friend Icarus.

NoE had it in the April-June list but that has been proven a lie.

I like what I'm reading so far. (I assume the controls feel fine at this point, as there were no complaints in these impressions.) Hopefully there are more vibrant locales in the full release.

From reading more about the game, I think that the pacing of the game will pick up as you get more God powers. I was pretty bored until I started moving stuff with the Power of Zeus.
I'm not 100% sold on this game, but I'll definitely keep an eye out on it.

Looks like Lost Winds. Not a bad thing.
