Why read the book when you can play the game?
The Chronicles of Narnia is a GBA adaptation of the film based on the beloved children's books by C.S. Lewis. It plays in an isometric 3-D perspective, similar to many RPGs on the market. The demo that I played features three levels, the first of which is "Lantern's Waste". It's a tutorial level that introduces players to the types of puzzles and battles that they'll be facing later on down the line.
In this level, you control Lucy Pevensie as she follows her friends and stumbles upon the magic wardrobe. Text dialogs drive the story as she walks through the portal and winds up in the wintry environs of Narnia. She soon meets Mr. Tumnus the faun, whom we find out was commanded by the White Witch to kidnap her, but doesn't have the heart to do it.
The types of puzzles you'll encounter are fairly simple, including kicking snow drifts, pushing rocks out of your way, and lighting fires with matches. You also have an inventory system (accessed with the Select button) that lets you carry items like toast and cookies for health.
Visuals are pretty nice, with character sprites looking very similar to those in
Golden Sun. Fighting monsters is simple, with the A button being used to have Lucy
kick enemy monsters. It's obvious that Chronicles of Narnia will emphasize adventure
and puzzle-solving over combat.
