Medal of Honor: Frontline

by Jeff Shirley - October 26, 2002, 6:12 am EDT

World War II was always the most fun chapter in History class.

I rented Medal of Honor: Frontline for the PS2 and I almost bought it until I heard that EA announced a GC version. Knowing it was going to have better load times and such, I passed on buying the PS2 version... later when I heard the magic word “multiplayer,” my decision sounded really good.

I did extensive work of the first level of the game, and I thought you might like to know that the GC version has a better framerate over the PS2 version. Way better... I even received 60 fps sometimes. Visually the game looks a little better, although it could have been even more improved.

The controls are very intuitive, and if you don’t like them...heck, just make your own. Completely customizable controls allow you to make your Nazi-shooting even easier.

Sound was something I couldn’t evaluate because of the Cube Club pumpin’ phat beats, word, although I did hear the impressive mortar rounds of the Normandy Beach mission.

Multiplayer is pretty good on 2-player...framerate stayed nice and steady; 3-player turned out to be a problem. Stuttering framerate whenever there is any action. I can only imagine what 4-player must be like.

This seemed to be a final version of Medal of Honor: Frontline. I progressed through one-third of the game before moving on to something else. Could they tweak the multiplayer game before November? Maybe, but it doesn’t look likely. Here’s hoping they do.
