Panasonic Q (GCN/DVD combo)

Oooo........so.......shiney........!

Oi. I never thought I'd ever get a Q. Hell, even getting a GC was going to be a momentous task, thanks to my lack of money. Here's a short summary of my overabundant luck that landed me such an expensive SHINEY.

I ran into a small sum of money about four months ago. I always wanted a Q but knew I could never, ever afford it. Someone I know offered me an excellent deal on a Spice Orange GC with Smash DX. Since I also thought the Orange GC was roxor, I "settled" for it since there was no way in hell I'd ever afford a Q. I send the money. (Which I could have bought food with, but gaming comes first hehe.) But the GC never gets sent due to a lot of really shitty circumstance. Fast forward about three months. He sends me my order but the courier smashes it en route. Finally he sends me my order and surprises me by upgrading my original (less than cost) order to a Q. Not only that but I got Luigi's Mansion and Waverace for free, just to make up for all this.

All for about HALF of what one would pay normally for a Q. Eheh.

Anyway. Impressions.

This thing is shiny. I mean really shiny. Screw it. IT SI TEH SHINEYS. SOOOOOOOOOOO SHINEEEEEEY. The controller ports lighting up is a huge plus.

It plays games nicely and the one I have is modded for both JPN/US games along with DVD regions 1-6. Of course I have no DVDs to test out the player, but you people have Billy's review for that. I might pick up a couple of DVDs sometime soon if I can afford them. (Unlikely.) The only problem I've seen with the Q is that unless you want to leave your system on or the disc in the tray, you must boot to the GC menu screen each time you turn it on. But that's not really an inconvenience.

The great thing about the Q remote is that if you even have the SLIGHTEST understanding of Japanese you can use it quite easily. Seems pretty well-featured. I just wish I had a better television. I've got this hooked up via RF. Before anyone starts emailing me bitching about this: I can't help it, I had to wire the bloody tele I HAVE to accept an RF signal so bugger to all of you. And if ANYONE tells me to buy a new set, you can purchase it for me. >:P

Anyway some brief impressions of Biohazard:

Looks stunning. Then again, I'm a BH fan. Also the third control option simply rocks. It takes most of the "awkwardness" out of the "traditional BH" control scheme. You hold the R trigger down to move forward and use the control stick to move left and right. While this might sound disorienting it is actually very good. I'm impressed Capcom. I can't wait to dig into the game over the next little while and kill some Zombies. Oh and the new voice acting has me a bit disappointed that "the master of unlocking" is no longer with us. Ah well, I'm not complaining that much.

I'm gonna be playing that and Smash Bros now. Ta ta.
