Jackie Chan Adventures

What's this?! A good video game based on a licensed property?

Yes boys and girls, it's true, Jackie Chan Adventures: Legend of the Dark Hand is a good game. Not a stellar one, nor should you feel compelled to run to the store this very instant, but it is very much worth your time to give it a try.

A side-scrolling brawler in the vein of Final Fight One, Jackie Chan matches up rather well against Capcom's legendary game. Featuring a solid graphic engine with nicely animated characters fighting atop well-drawn 2D backdrops, and a good soundtrack backed by Shin'en's sound engine, the game certainly does not disappoint. If you're looking for a faithful recreation of the cartoon series' art style you'll find it here as well. Good, responsive controls and a batch of fun combo moves you earn throughout the course of the game round out the package.

Although it seems to be a short run of a game, as the game features a save point after every level and unlimited continues to boot, it seems to be a good game to pick up and play when you're in the mood for some quick action. A few other flaws such as a lack of link play and limited character selection (only Jackie is available) stop me from recommending this above or even directly alongside Final Fight One. All things considered though, fans of the genre and/or the cartoon series would do themselves a favor to give this title a look.
