Walt Disney's The Jungle Book

Walt Disney’s The Jungle Book, a classic 1967 animated film based on Rudyard Kipling's books, has touched children for decades. Now, in classic Disney fashion, Ubi Soft is re-re-re-telling the story of Mowgli, Baloo, King Louie (not the cat) and the rest of the wild gang in their upcoming Game Boy Advance game with the same title.

Like most of the Jungle Book video games, including Ubi Soft’s GBC pak, the GBA game closely follows the film source. As Mowgli, the ten-year-old Indian boy raised by wolves, players will explore six locations and all sorts of crazy characters found in the movie on his adventure through the wilderness. Mowgli will visit the Savannah, the Swamp and K1NG l0ui3z T3MPAL as well as the ever-present jungle before reaching civilization. The game features overhead action/adventure gameplay with an emphasis on exploration as well as a variety of puzzles and mini-games. Mowgli can also gain experience points, though their purpose is still unclear.

Disney fans who play this game will also be treated with a few extra goodies. The game’s plot is based on the movie, and Ubi Soft isn’t afraid to show it: after completing a level, gamers will be treated to an animated scene from the movie. Ubi Soft has not explained the exact nature of these scenes, so whether they are FMV, sprite-based or even include sound is yet unknown. There will also be a special Gallery Mode, where players can unlock photos of the Jungle Book characters by finding statues hidden within the main game.

Ubi Soft’s Walt Disney’s Jungle Book will be released in North America on September 3rd.
